7 redeemed MS from Vista (though I had no problems with Vista, 7 is far superior), and was given too short a life cycle. 7 runs great, has fantastic compatibility, and is a breeze to use. RIP, Windows 7.

The software installation process is quite hassle-free. It is “set it and forget it” simple. Not like Win XP which required someone to remain next to the PC while the installation progressed. The software was installed on a laptop, but I’ve done installations at my place of work and rarely a problem occurs. Just remember, to install this software on an XP machine, it must be a complete install, NOT AN UPGRADE. You can only upgrade (preserve settings and files) from a Vista installation.

Positives:I don’t have to scour the internet for updates for anything, Windows Update does it for me.It looks pretty like Vista, but isn’t VistaIt is as stable as XPIt isn’t Windows 8 (No stupid ‘Metro’ UI)Negatives:It isn’t free : (Runs so stably that I can’t make excuses to stay in gaming on Friday nightsI can’t even make up more negatives….

I purchased this to perform a fresh install on an HP laptop – the laptop was one that previously came with Vista and I had subsequently upgraded to 7 with a three user license software package. Somehow, a family member (who will remain anonymous in case they read the review) managed to screw up a lot of the functionality which led to crashes, hanging, you name it. While I like to think I am pretty tech savvy, I could not fix it nor could an IT professional who does things like this each and every day. What to do? Take a copy of My Documents and do a clean install with this disc, then re-load Office 2010 and My Documents.Worked like a charm. It did take some time to install, and the machine needed to do a lot of updates for Microsoft patches and fixes – I couldn’t tell you how long it took as I just left the machine running to the side most of the day, checking up on it and clicking a few buttons here and there, as I worked around the house.I now have a stable platform and the install went off without a hitch. A little extreme on what I had to do to resurrect this laptop, but it sure beat paying another two grand for a replacement machine!

I got the fully licensed version of Windows 7 instead of the OEM because I do not want the hassle of calling the service center all the time when I decide to upgrade my motherboard or clean install when i build my PC.Windows 7 installs very easily, just make sure to put only the basic three driver types (board chipset drivers, sound drivers and video card drivers) on the machine before updating Windows 7 online after installing the LAN drivers. There are over 80 updates right now with this Windows 7 version (which contains service pack 1), so get yourself a drink or two while doing that. It takes about two to three rounds of updates until you got all of them. After this, installing the remainder of drivers plus firewall, antivirus etc. works without problems.

I installed the full version of Windows 7 home edition (not the upgrade version) on an 8.9″ netbook with a 1.6ghz intel atom processor, 2gb ram, and a 32gb solid state hard drive. This is the first time I had ever done a completely clean install of a Windows operating system, without all of the garbage that comes from the manufacturer when you buy a new Windows computer. I purchased my netbook from Dell last summer with Ubuntu Linux installed because I wanted to give it a try. But I’m not nearly patient enough nor computer literate enough to figure out alternatives to all the software that I could no longer use with Linux. So I gave in and bought Windows. Anyway, I like it. Runs well, even with my computer’s paltry system specs. Glad I made the purchase. Would recommend if you don’t have to worry about compatibility issues with your current software or if you have a netbook with low-end system specifications.

I am not a computer specialist, but I have used every version of Windows from Windows 98 to Windows 8 and I can say in my strongest opinion that this is the best Windows so far. This is the culmination of ease and convenience in Windows software. After a lot of research to try and understand what I got with Windows 8 on my newest computer it seems it distilled down to Microsoft using their influence to try and stamp out Adobe with a format that smacked of cell phones. So if folks are wanting to use a Windows Operating System and are not sure which to use, I highly recommend going with Windows 7 and staying away from 8.

I think XP is still just a little bit better, but Win 7 is still no joke. My only gripe is that they restrict you’re safety options a little too much, but maybe I’m just uneducated here because I have yet to read up on any manuals or anything, and all my experience basically comes from Windows 95 and XP. But either way this is a fantastic OS and once again trumps anything Mac has ever put out.

This purchase was for my HP notebook PC, purchased in 2008 with Vista pre-installed. I hated Vista for several reasons which Win7 completely rectified. The biggest problem was the minimal help HP offers with laptops older than 2009, so getting all the drivers and programs that were part of the proginal HP package was a pain but we have recoverd 95% of what was lost in the transition. I’m very pleased with the speed and general performance of this OS.

Plus’s and minus’s of W7 have been covered by other reviewers so i won’t repeat them. I’ll just comment that W7 is more reliable on my Dell XPS M1730 laptop than Vista and offers a crisper, faster processing experience. On my laptop Vista would hang up regularly and frequently refused to shut down, requiring me to do a hard shutdown. Most of the time Vista refused to wake up after putting my XPS M1730 to sleep by closing the lid which also then required a hard shutdown. W7 has none of these problems. After using it almost daily for two and a half years it just runs and runs without any problems. As far as “feel” goes, W7 reminds me of a nicer XP.

I installed Windows 7 as a second operating system on my 2009 MBP a couple months back, and it works great. Now I don’t have to worry about being system-limited when it comes to software. I recommend anyone interested in squeezing a little bit more out of their MBP do this. I also recommend a RAM upgrade… it is one of the least expensive investments you can make to dramatically improve your laptop.

I had been a XP Holdout for quite a while because that OS was matchless, however I found that Microsoft finally got it right with Windows 7 and also love the 64 bit, that has increased the computers capabilities even more. It was easy to install (clean install not upgrade), the main thing to remember is to back up all you data files before you convert. Windows 7 is a solid performer.

I purchased this full version so I could load it on my Macbook via bootcamp and it worked flawlessly. All of the drivers for my computer peripherals were loaded correctly. The At&T Uverse wireless internet was configured in a snap. Bootcamp is a great utility. I was only able to load 32 bit version because my mac was just on the outside of the requirements for 64 bit. But it still works great! I really like this version of windows. We use XP at work and it was great for a while especially after win 95 but Win 7 is incredible. We skipped Vista so this upgrade was long overdue. Everything seems to work better. The Adobe CS 5 suite is amazing on Win 7. I wish there were better font management options. All in good time I assume.*update* 7-23-2012I have finally upgraded my Mac to lion and Win 7 still runs perfectly on the bootcamp drive. I had waited longer than I usually would to upgrade Mac OS X because I was reading that there was some issues with the bootcamp partition and OS X lion. Well, I had no issues whatsoever. I wish I would have upgraded earlier. This dual boot machine is the best thing that I have ever done. It’s like have 2 computers with you at all times! I can’t wait to get my hands on Win 8. It looks great!

well i’ve got to throw my hat in the ring and say this is the best windows yet. After vista started playing up i took the plunge and installed the 64 bit version on a vaio z – works great. (vista seems obviously now to me a beta version and test ground for windows 7)No compatibility issues on any of my software. Only problem was the magic jack won’t work !! annoying but got to blame magic jack company for this one who seem inept to make a reliable product. As for windows 7 it really is compact, and much more organized , also i like dragging my mouse to the bottom right corner to minimize all windows (the little things hey;)

After using Windows Vista for a couple of years it was time to finally change to Window 7. Windows 7 works extremely fast, smooth, and crash free compared to Windows Vista. Installation was easy with the Win 7 DVD just installing itself on my new hard drive in about 20 minutes. On the initial start up there were a few configurations including language and internet to click through. Before installation was complete I was already connected to my home wireless internet.Connecting to wireless is easy with Win 7. Vista sometimes had issues connecting to wireless internets, wireless printers, home networks etc, all of those problems are gone with Win 7.Vista always had a knack for crashing and I would usually find my computer crashing a few times a month. Windows 7 has not crashed yet and I’ve been using it for a few months now.Start up with Vista could take up to 7 minutes at it’s worst. Win 7 startup is just over 1 minute. Shut down with Vista usually was at least 2 minutes. Win 7 shuts down in about 12 seconds.Overall, I am very please with my transition to Win 7 and I highly recommend it, especially if you are using Vista right now.

Windows 7 is a huge improvement over Vista, which was really a step back from XP.much better DRAM resource handling capability, doesn’t seem to hang.one piece of advice… install 64 Bit, not 32 bit. if you’re running 32 Bit Vista, this requires a clean install which is harder than it should be but fine once you know how.

Shipping was timely. I can’t be happier with windows 7. Since I’m not an expert in downloading and drivers and the such. I took it into a computer place where they did the downloads and drivers. They also did all the updates for Windows 7 which you will need to do. I was operating on Vista which I’m so glad to get rid of. It would be a good move to buy the Windows 7.

I put off upgrading for years, stubbornly sticking to my Windows XP machine. But the limits of a 32bit system and the lack of support of the latest DirectX were becoming painfully obvious when it came to my games. My new hardware couldn’t be used to it’s fullest capabilities.Pretty much had to upgrade to a 64bit OS, and wanted to stay with Windows, there were only a few options. 64-bit XP was out of the question, and Vista as well. It was either Windows 7 or 8, and I did not fee like turning my Desktop into a Microsoft Surface so I ruled out Windows 8.In the end though, I’m happy with Windows 7. Installed it on a brand new SSD and it works great. My machine boots fast, all my games run great, and my computer can now fully use the latest and greatest hardware. My RAM is only limited by my motherboard now. And I can keep DirectX fully updated.

I’m a fan of windows 7 so I got it again for my custom PC. Once again I love it, doesn’t give me any problems. Not to mention you can use it multiple times! My friend just built his and instead of dishing out $200 on windows 7 I just lent him mine. And please don’t go buying the Ultimate edition people, if you look up the differences 90% of the time you wont benefit what so ever from its extras. I bought a PC from someone once who had installed the Ultimate edition on his pc, all he did was game really. So in turn he wasted about $100 on a pointless upgrade.

General purpose Windows OS. Most people I know generally agree that this is the best version of Windows available as of now. I can imagine that Microsoft may experience the same type of phenomenon they had when people refused to upgrade to Vista from XP now that 8 has been deemed relatively unpopular. My one complaint about 7 is that it continues the trend of oversimplifying the interface so that as little information as possible is available. For instance, folder size is still not displayed on the list in explorer. You have to check the properties.I LOVE how it automatically finds drivers rapidly. This may be a problem for some, but the feature can be deactivated.

If you are not ready yet for the Metro styled Windows 8 then Windows 7 is still a realistic option. This is a modern OS with an added lifespan due to its extended support from Microsoft until January 14, 2020. While this OS is really an improved version of Windows Vista it still lacks the previous OS’s Calendar, Mail, Movie Maker, and Photo Gallery applications but these applications are still available for free from Microsoft in its Windows Essentials suite.

I haven’t been a PC user for all that long; perhaps 10 years, so I’ve only seen Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista. I suppose that’s enough to know when an operating system has reached a pinnacle. Windows 7 is the version that finally excels. Faster, easier to use, better in general. Every good feature, broken or useless in previous versions, has been repaired or made better. The only complaint I have over Windows Vista is that they removed the calendar and e-mail program in favor of Windows Live, which I do not like. Overall, a good buy.

So many reviews go on about what it is. Here is what it isn’t.Linux….Linux systems that I have tried are never on the edge of current events. Even the games that are available for them aren’t as up to date as the version of the same games that you can get for windows.Linux isn’t as user friendly to install. Though I must say that I nearly freaked when Windows 7 asked me how I wanted to partition my hard-drive. If you are used to setting stuff up in older version of windows the learning is pretty straight forward.I have yet to see anything that makes it better then XP. Though buying a new copy of XP didn’t look like much of a option. They don’t sell XP. At least where I shop.If you don’t mind a steep learning curve. Software that is years out of date. Half your hardware not working up to its potential (when it does work). The go with Linux. After all there are many free distributions out there. What isn’t cheaper then free after all.If you want something that is easy to learn. That the software for it has the potential to be cutting edge. All your hardware working (usually). With all the hoopla over vista problems, I was reluctant to use it. And 7 to some degree. I had an occasion to use vista & liked the look but not all the unnecessary user interface. I’m pleased with 7 and the minimalist approach taken. I was aware of the lack of a built-in mail program but didn’t realize my ISP didn’t support windows live mail. I now have to read mail on-line and forward to live mail address if I want to file it on the computor. Not much hassle configuring 7 the way I wanted. Upgraded from Vista (which REALLY REALLY SUCKS: didn’t read my external hard drive or my speakers) to Windows 7 and it’s been GREAT! I received the product very quickly and it was a great deal.

It’s Windows 7 and not the much more problematic (for us) Windows 8/8.1 now being released and put on new PCs. Enough said. Also, this full version, while more expensive than the cheaper “OEM” copies that are available, can be installed on a replacement PC one day, whereas the cheaper OEM copy can only be installed on a single piece of hardware, and Microsoft will not allow you to re-activate it on a new computer.

Excellent product. I had this version and upgraded to windows 8 which was a big mistake. I had to repurchase Windows Home Premium to be able to use my computer the way I used to. Windows 8 is not worth buying in my opinion.

Always a great idea to have an Microsoft install disk! I do love the quick boot time & classic look/feel of Microsoft in Windows 7.

Windows 7 is the best version of Windows ever and the Home Premium edition is the best edition available for home users.

This was my second purchase of Windows 7 Home Premium, as the first one had a scratched disc.7 is definitely an improvement over XP. I recommend buying if you’ve still using XP SP3.Going into the clean install, there was one problem I was expecting to have. I hadn’t gotten all of the drivers for 7. One driver in particular that I thought I wouldn’t be able to get was for the SoundMax integrated audio, as SoundMax doesn’t publicly release their drivers. I was able to easily find it in Windows Update (which is not dependent on Internet Explorer, for those still using XP), download and install, and then it worked like a charm. However, I did notice that the system sounds in 7 are quieter than in XP (at least, for me), so you may need to turn up the volume. One of the video games I installed was Portal. Portal ran fine on the first start, however when it was reloading after I changed the graphics settings, it wasn’t starting properly. I found disabling DEP (Data Execution Prevention) on its executable (hl2.exe) solved the problem. The only problem I still have on 7 is possibly not 7’s fault. It seems that iTunes 10 doesn’t interact like it should when it’s running, and I plug in my iPod Nano 5G. I know what the effects are (in Device Manager, a USB driver uninstall is in progress), from a little research, but I have no idea how to solve it. Annoying.Overall, Windows 7 is worth the money. This review was written on my main OS on that machine, Ubuntu Linux 10.10

far better than starter version. If you want to do a lot with your PC then this is the version you need to load.

Great product. I bought this to run Windows 7 on my Macbook through (first Parallels, then) Bootcamp and it works perfectly.

This software is simple and easy to use, while still utilizing the desktop interface we PC users are so used to. I don’t have any mobile devices, so I rely on easy to use home software for my PC. This is MUCH easier to use than Vista, with far fewer issues. It’s like a revamped version of XP. Sad to see it get pushed out by Window 8, I like this interface much MUCH more.

It is Win 7 what else needs to be said. The only operating system I will use for the near future.

An excellent upgrade from Vista. Very easy to load, no issues noted. An operating system is supposed to be a tool to run the programs you want without issue, and 7 delivers!

Windows 7 is awesome, I’m using the 64- bit edition and along as a something is compatible with Vista, I’ve had no trouble getting to work for 64. Great edition of Windows, everything that Vista should have been.

We needed Windows 7 to help repair problems on our laptop. New software, new hard drive, and lots of troubleshooting later, the laptop is fixed. Yeah!

I have been using computers since DOS 1.0, through Windows 3.1, through Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows 7.I skipped Windows BOB, and Windows ME and VISTA (some real dogs)I was lucky and grew up with the microcomputers beginning in 1980.There have been some really good OS’s and some really bad ones.Windows 7 is stable and really cleaned up the VISTA mess.Once I find a good OS, I stay with it even after the next version comes along. (Paid off for ME and Vista)If you don’t have a touch screen, you can stay with Windows 7 until you get one. It is a good, stable OS.

Bought an SSD and needed a complete(not OEM) version of Win7 to install on it. This fit the bill and at a decent price.

I had Vista which I ended up hating and decided to go with Windows 7. It was a good decision because I no longer have all the problems with freezing up and Vista not being compatible with programs I have to use. Very happy with Windows 7. I highly recommend it.
