The reviews for this disc and key are mixed, either the key worked or it did not. My experience went well, despite being nervous that I bought something that might not work.I downloaded windows 10 directly from Microsoft and installed it on my newly-built content creation rig while waiting for the disc to arrive. While I was waiting, I looked at the reviews, many were saying their copy of windows wouldn’t accept the (possibly invalid/fake) key, or that it was for OEM PCs (Dell, HP, etc.) and not user-built devices. When the disc came, I immediately put in the key, and for a split second it did say this key may not be genuine, but it successfully activated Windows.

As in inveterate Win-7 user I finally had to break down and move to Win-10. “This will take some time” is the mantra, and yes it takes a long time to load. On the plus side the computer operating under Win-10 does operate faster. However the download has a host of “apps” and presumes that you have or are loading this to a smart-phone. Yes, you can keep your main screen and the links to open programs still work but,…. When you press the Windows symbol (where the start button used to be) you get an alphabetical list of your programs (oops, I guess they are all “apps” now). There are a whole bunch that you probably never had before. Some can be “uninstalled” while others (part of the Microsoft revenue stream?) cannot be removed at all. My guess is that the majority of the installation process is loading all the “apps”. Since I do not have, nor do I ever want, a smart phone most of this stuff is junk as far as I’m concerned. Finally, Win-10 in pushy: it wants you to do all your stuff in their cloud so those functions are easy to access. Getting to some of your old programs (sorry, “Apps”) have to be searched out using the Windows button in the lower left hand corner of the screen. Finding your data files for backups (you do regular backups – right?) is a bit daunting.Outlook, Excel, Word, et cetera do work in the Win-10 environment. That being said, I can only rate this a four because it is really not intended for desktop use and there are multiple opportunities to “accidentally” screw things up by telling the system that you are on a phone or tablet. So far, I haven’t goofed. I would have preferred that Microsoft issue a version for desktops and without all the “apps” that most desktop users will never access let along use.

It’s a great OS. For all the complaints of a skimpy app store, having all the important apps plus thousands of others on the desktop is a huge plus. Plenty of quality games as well in the store. Privacy concerns, while valid, can certainly be avoided. You can opt out of just about everything as far as I know. You don’t even have to log in with a MS ID if you don’t want to. Local accounts are available. So, you can have the privacy of Windows 7 with the power of Windows 10. Local accounts were available on Windows 8, but it was less obvious as to how to choose that option when setting it up on install than it is now. Windows 10 is more transparent, but it could do a better job at asking if you want to choose a local account or sign in with MS ID instead of assuming that you are signing in with a MS ID. Stability is close to flawless.Edge has come a long way, and I’m looking forward to PDF markup capability coming in the fall update. Of course you can use your favorite browser, whichever that is. Cortana, however, is limited to Edge.SMS phone integration has gotten better, but still limited. You can reply to sms in the notification bar, nowhere else, unless you use Skype as your primary messaging app on a windows phone. Not sure how that works with Android/IOS phones, but I know you at least get notifications.Speed is fantastic. Boot to desktop time is typically 10 sec or less with an SSD. Pretty quick with a standard HDD as well.

I took a chance on buying this given the inconsistent reviews regarding the Product Code. My HP laptop had some major issues that I think was related to some type of Malware, although none of the Malware/Anit-Virus programs could identify the issue. I decided I needed to start all over and reload Windows. The problem I had is my laptop came with Windows 7 and I upgraded to Windows 10. I also did not have a copy of the restore media that came with my Computer and my Recovery Drive was corrupted. This software arrived in one day, I loaded the DVD and it NEVER even asked me for the Product Code. My guess is it may have recognized my Computer already had Windows 10, so maybe the Product Code was not required. I loaded the DVD and had it erase everything, reload Windows 10, then download all the critical and current Windows 10 updates and now I am back up and running smooth and efficiently. This completely fixed MY problem so for that reason I am very happy! Luckily I had all my DOCS, Pics, and Videos Backed Up to an External Seagate Drive that allowed me to simply transfer them back to the Laptop after the install.

This disc installed Windows 10 with no trouble. Using a Gigabyte GA-Z170x-Gaming 3 motherboard, with no previous OS installed. The cd key worked without trouble as well. Important buyer information, if you ask me. So yes, this disc will work just fine for installation. Now for my review of Windows 10 after having used it for over a month…Pros: You get your familiar desktop/start panel back, huge improvement over the awful Windows 8 design. Also, Windows 10 boots up FAST. I’m using 8gb DDR4 RAM in my rig, with an Intel Core i5 6600k, and for me, it boots up in about 10-15 seconds. After years of waiting at minimum a couple minutes for older Windows OS’s to boot up, this is a HUGE pro. Another pro is the customization that Windows 10 allows you.Cons: My biggest complaint, Windows 10 does not natively play DVD’s! You cannot pop in a movie and watch it with Windows Media Player or the Tv/Movies app. You must purchase a “dvd player” from Microsoft’s app store for $15. This is the most absurd thing that Microsoft has quite possibly ever done. Anyone purchasing Windows 10 to install on a new system will have this problem. If you’re upgrading from 7 or 8, then I believe they do include dvd playback at no cost. If you’re paying for Windows 10 though, it’s a RIPOFF to charge another fee just so that we can play our movies. You can try downloading VLC media player to have a free means for dvd playback. But do not download the app version from the Windows app store, as it’s just as useless as Windows Media Player. Other cons are that Windows heavily uses apps for this OS, which feels cheapened like you’re using some crappy mobile device. Also, you will get some advertisements for apps or games, which should NOT be included in a paid version of the OS.All in all, 3/5 stars from me. Fast boot, nice look, some returns to familiar OS’s prior to 8, customization, and stability thus far, makes this a decent OS, far superior to Windows 8. However, lack of free, integrated DVD playback is an absurdity that I cannot wrap my head around.

Well, I had to update this former 1-star review from a while ago. I built my own PC in 2017 and installed this from scratch on a fresh hard drive. When I first installed everything worked great until I had to activate Windows. I scratched off the thing on the packaging, entered the 25 digit key, and it told me that I had an invalid key. I figured I had gotten scammed. I was pretty bummed until I realized I could still do most of what I wanted with Windows not activated (mostly just locking personalization options). Since I was already outside of the return window, I decided to just roll with it.Fast forward to now (beginning of 2021) when I was thinking I should really buy a legit copy of Windows. I figured I would poke around in the activation screen one last time, just to see if I mis-entered the key the 20 or so times way back when. I looked at the “Update Product key” section and pressed a button that said “My hardware has recently changed”, wondering what that was for. Lo and behold, the thing goes out to Microsoft’s servers and finds the digital license linked to my Microsoft account. I don’t know what changed or why, but I now have a working key. Maybe it was because I built my own PC that it got thrown off, maybe I’m just an idiot and I needed to do it that way from the get go, or maybe there is no rhyme or reason and the whims of the product key gods swayed in my favor. Whatever the reason, I’m back to add a few stars to my review. That being said, you are still probably better off just buying it directly from Microsoft. I’m definitely not riding this roulette rollercoaster next time I need an OS…

A fall from greatness, Windows 7 worked much better at this stage. It’s more or less version 4 of Windows visa just like Windows 8 was V3 of that OS. Windows 7 is the only “Version” of visa that worked as it should.Drivers hate this OS, I have seen all kinds of issues that didn’t exist on software/hardware running windows 7 or even Windows 8.1. I would not recommend upgrading a laptop from 7/8 to this in spite of the fact it’s “free” due to the number of driver issues that can pop up to never be fixed by the OEM.I bought this for a desktop build and with the new hardware it does okay but still runs into issues with pre 2015 software and even hardware at times. Software that works on Windows 7 and even 8 can easily break down and not work with Windows 10 at all due to some under the hood changes that Microsoft did because it felt like it.Putting the whole OS built in spy ware issue aside the core of the OS on a basic level is broken/trash when looking at even a beta build of Windows 7. I know because I ran the Windows 7 public beta as my main OS and loved it more than Vista or Windows 10 pro in the state it’s in now. There is no fixing it your self because Microsoft has chosen to change stuff under the hood for the heck of it and break stuff for little good reason. They really should have just ripped out all of the old code and started over if they couldn’t out do Windows 7 in how stable it is and how many programs for it just work. Microsoft has failed two times in a row to put out a good OS with much of the same code base as Windows 7. This is sad due to the fact this should be nothing like XP to vista where Microsoft changed the whole security model and core of the OS but the results are so close that Microsoft may as well have done that again because at lest then it would have something to show for breaking so much stuff.

This is a CD with a passkey. You can use passkey to thumbdrive the startup off windows website. With clean build, use shift f10, then type OOBE\BYPASSNRO, then enter to bypass internet setup page to finish install for local account or can set up internet after install is complete. Windows should bring back “i dont have internet” prompt to fix startup on new clean set ups

My experience with using Windows 10 has for the most part been positive. The only glitch Ive had was when I did a full install on an older gutted HP PC with an LED lit Keyboard and mouse. After several windows updates everything seemed to install smoothly until the LED Keyboard and Mouse would not turn off after shut down. It was frustrating to trouble shooting the reason to why the lights would not turn off! As this gutted HP PC parts were transferred to a nicer case, I checked the connections to the motherboard, cleared CMOS, and I played with Bios, searched the net for answers and finally gave up tired as it was 2am and I couldn’t think straight anymore. Sleep was what I needed but had in mind a find from the net that hopefully would solve this dilemma. Sure enough it was something very simple that Windows 10 I guess sets up by default if a PC system runs slow due to older hardware. This was my guess bc I have a custom gaming rig with high end parts worth over $2,000 and comparing the power options I noticed a difference in the Power Options, “choose what the power buttons do”. If you have this problem uncheck the “Turn off fast startup” option. This will turn off the power to the lights on your usb keyboard and mouse during shut down. Other than this stupid glitch Windows 10 works fine. I like it.

There were a number of comments about the product key not working, but I needed a new OS and gave this a try despite those reviews, as I have complete faith in Amazon to fix things if anything goes bad with a purchase. On the plus side, Windows Home installed easily and didn’t take forever to do so. I use Windows 10 pro at work, and for my purposes on a home computer, this Windows Home addition works just as well as the pro version. Minuses: I don’t know why this software isn’t available via download rather than on a disc, particularly with so many new laptops not having a cd/dvd drive. My problem with the product key was that I couldn’t find it. The packaging provided no instructions as to where the key could be found and the MS website said there should have been a slip inside the disc sleeve, but there wasn’t. I called Amazon (MS says you have to deal with the seller if you don’t by it directly from MS. Amazon rep was polite but couldn’t help me with finding the code, but quickly offered to replace it or refund the cost, so I went with the refund thinking I was tired of messing with it. And of course MS makes it clear it won’t provide any support involving a human rep, and the web site information turned out to be wrong. Finally found out after searching many web posts on various sited that the key was under some gray “scratch off” stuff on the front of the inside packaging. Fortunately, I was able to call Amazon support back before the refund was completely processed and got that fixed. Some instructions from MS would have been nice and would have saved me an hour. Maybe MS thinks everyone will know to treat the CD cover slip like a scratch-off lottery ticket in order to find the product key, but I find the total lack of instructions for finding the key in the purchased package and the incorrect information posted on the MS website to be unacceptable.

Once again I had to learn a new Apps/command layout for Windows 10, when there was nothing wrong with Windows 8’s access to apps and programs. Also, I could not get Win 10 to save or copy files burnt out to DVD to play on a standalone DVD player. I wish that MS would stop monkeying with the built-in win programs without testing the THOROUGHLY.

Installation DVD and Product Key worked like a charm. Windows 11 has way fewer mandatory M$ data mining programs than W10.

First, I have to say that I am not a computer professional, nor am I a newbie to building computers and using the operating systems. This was a nice new/ clean desk-top installation that took all of about ten minutes to complete. Being that I am making a huge step up to Win 10 from previous Win versions, there is a bit of a learning curve when using Win 10. The challenge is finding everything that used to be in familiar places that is still there but either in different places or structured a little differently. Everything is now app-based, similar to our phones, and if you can get used to approaching the operating system like you use your phone, it makes things a little easier. Some have been critical of forced updates and data mining, and other things. I chose the pro version because it lets you schedule updates. I have not had any problems. As far as data mining and other things are concerned, I really can’t tell, and can’t really say that it is more or less than what Google or anybody else collects. So overall my rating of five stars is accurate and honest and I have no reservations in recommending it to others.Edit/ addition: I must add one very important detail: After opening the packaging, you will find the bar-coded information on a sticker. Also on the sticker is the product key, which is covered by some kind of material (similar to what is on a lottery ticket) that must be scratched off to reveal the product key. Caution! DO NOT use anything metal to scratch this off or you may damage the key code. It is better to use a finger nail to scratch lightly, a little at a time until the key code is revealed. Also, once the key code is revealed you will notice that it is printed with one of the smallest font sizes I have ever seen. Get your magnifying glass out, you will need it (I’m not kidding).

I was able to do a fresh install on an older computer. The logo wasn’t popping up for me when I did my install, but just wait a few minutes and it will fully load the disk/installation.Also, the full CD is hidden behind a scratch film. Don’t try to peel off the sticker.Great OEM that gets the job done.

The Free windows update that I paid over 116.00 dollars for destroyed my PC. I had a super machine that was totally upgrade-able. I had a Quad 4- i7 processor and 12 gb of ram on MOBO which can be upgraded to 32 GB of Ram and 2 drives and a recovery. I tried twice to install a ‘Clean Install” but it stopped twice during the process. I must admit I got Microsoft on the phone pretty quick , so we tried for another hour or two but to no Prevail . I was told to take my desk top pc to my local store located in Mid-Town Manhattan and they told me I had a hardware failure ? I said the machine was fine until I put your rotten Win 10 disk in my PC. I was told by their tech specialist that my MOBO blew up ! I said what ! How can that be !? The machine ran like a fine Swiss watch on Win 7 pro.. I was told that the machine must now go out for further Diagnosis on hardware and how much it is going to cost me !!!! So far 116 and change for Win 10 O.S. from Amazon plus 50 dollars to ship my PC from Microsoft out for more complex testing facility, which can take up to 4 weeks and cost me over 600 dollars!!!?? I told the Microsoft Rep that your OS 10 is destroying perfectly good machines. This Desktop cost me 1500 plus!! All you have to do is google ” Win 10 Destroyed my motherboard and the case is closed. There are countless lawsuits pending class action just do a search.. I will follow up with this store and my comment about my Microsoft experience when they call me with the results. I told them I have 2 more Win 7 pro machines that must be upgraded but how can I trust Microsoft!!?? After over 20 yrs of windows and at least 6 different O.S’s and at least 15 different machines …Countless crashes Windows Vista and Millennium …. I AM READY TO JUMP THE FENCE AND RUN TO APPLE. HEED MY WARNING!UPDATE!!!!I RECEIVED A CALL FROM MY LOCAL MICROSOFT STORE WHICH SENT OUT MY CUSTOM -HP PAVILION HPE FOR FURTHER TESTING. AFTER 3 WEEKS I RECEIVE A CALL FROM THE TECH DEPT AND THEY SAID “BIOS’ AS SOON AS I HEARD THAT WORD, I KNEW THIS IS A PROBLEM WAS BETWEEN MICROSOFT AND THE PC MANUFACTURE. THIS IS NOT A CUSTOMER ISSUER. THE STAFF WAS GREAT IN MID-TOWN MANHATTAN AND WERE POLITE AFTER A DEBATE THAT I WON AFTER WORKING ON WINDOWS FOR ALMOST 20 YRS AND 6 OS’s . I TOLD THEM THANK YOU AND THEY TOLD ME BRING MY OTHER 2 WIN7 PRO MACHINES IN AND WE WILL UPGRADE THEM FOR FREE. i WILL TRY TO INCLUDED THE WORK ORDER.. SERVICEScope of Work: Resolution & Work Completed:Customer attempted to install windows 10 and itfailed.Perform Hardware DiagnosticsNo data back up**Clean install of windows 10.Windows 10 disc still inside**Reset CMOS and got unit to boot, installed Win10,updated BIOS and all drivers, device passed diagnosticsand functions testing, sending to final QCIt is so nice that Microsoft took full responsibility and I changed my mind 180 degrees about the company, still cautious but optimistic until my other 2 machines are running right on the new OS which will be installed right before OS 7 becomes not supported..THANK YOU AGAIN MID-TOWN MANHATTAN

I needed a reliable place to buy windows 11. I was reimbursed for the purchase from our school, so I went here to purchase. There are ways you can get windows 11 at a MUCH lower price though so I would encourage most people to look elsewhere online. You do not need the installation disk. I don’t have a disk drive. You can download the installation media onto a USB and then use the product key from this to certify the install. This worked for me without any problems.

Update: 2019-01-12, after many failed updates and upgrades through the update system in win10, I gave it one last stab today. I stumbled onto a link someone posted for using the Windows Media Creation Tool to update and upgrade. Never used it for anything before. I just spent a couple months using the win10 as it was loaded with my non-sp1 version, with blocking all updates. It works, but many features don’t fully function without updates(The store or some apps). So I clicked on the link in a forum post(where I cannot remember), which sent me to the Windows tool that loaded Windows 10pro. I already have win10pro. OK, this is getting scary at this point, since I had no idea what was ahead of me, so I disconnected a few hard drives, and double checked to see if I cared about losing some stuff. Moved forward, and it loads a fresh upgraded copy of Windows(build-17763) on your computer, without all other upgrades/updates in between that broke it before. Everything actually works perfectly(so far), like win10 did before. The onboard update system must have been corrupted, and many people were complaining of the same corruption for their updates. Before the October Windows upgrade, there was two or three different upgrades, and made my win10 flip out. This TOOL put the October UPGRADE on my win10 immediately(Took some time to download). For all of you out there with update troubles , do this, it is like a miracle. This loads the freshest/stable copy of win10. Even my Creative X-Fi sound card is still working, and it was always crushed by any update beyond the initial install disc drivers. I still doubt that MS has added drivers to decrypt Canon digic 7 camera photos in its MS photos app. So, hopefully win10 will now be stable again for at least another year and beyond.I did also stumble onto a section at MS’s site that sounded like you could download or install the October 2018 upgrade, but did not investigate it further. Trust me, I looked for that at MS’s site before, and it is always hard to find things you need at MS’s site. MS has lots of things that say download this here, and when you go there, there is NO DOWNLOAD. Hahaha on me! Had to click on a link in a random internet forum, who knows where, to get the answer I needed for this latest fix. I’ve called MS about these update/upgrade dilemmas before, and the country of India could not find the answer between 2 billion geniuses. Remember when you could call ‘BOB’ the computer genius, at the computer company? All the BOB’s are on disability now, and downsized out of work. I hope some of this helps someone out there. Especially folks that upgraded from 7,8,8.1, etc., this may be the panacea of updates.UPDATE: 2018-12-20, Well, I really loved this Win10 computer build for almost two years, and then the updates and upgrades started coming hot and heavy from MS. I spent good money buying the best components too. My Creative sound card quit working all together eventually(1809 upgrade). Google Chrome was toasted time and time again, and I have everything on Google Chrome. Windows Edge runs like garbage now too. You do not have a say so in how the computer updates, and does not do any assessment for incompatibility of your components. After tons of so called ‘upgrades’ MS downloads and installs, you end up with chow suey. My fast win7 computer is still zipping along and passing up my much faster win10 build. I really feel sorry for all the people with slow computers, old windows Vistas/7’s/8’s computers with FREE upgrades that have just quit working with no wifi, no sound, no video, and peripherals getting wonky. Oh yes, my Logitech mouse is worthless now too.Windows computers, as opposed to Apples, gave you the freedom(like America once) to install components and programs, and have them function for years to come(like my win7 computer), but now, MS upgrades your equipment and leaves you with a choppy Edge browser, and failing peripherals. Win7 let you pick the updates you needed. We aren’t running the Pentagon and don’t need all the National Security updates to protect the Nation. Win10 is kinda like CA, the government adds people and subtracts your money without your approval. Is this communism computer control?Another feature of win10 that was wonderful, the photo app that gave you a great array of tweaks for your photos. As time went on, even that app got worse. It is never updated. Updates are only features you’d never use. I recently got a new Canon 77d camera, and the non-updated MS photo app will not process 77d RAW files. All new Canon cameras have the newer Digic7 processor, and MS photo app won’t fix those RAW photos. The wonderful Media Center from winXP-win8, gone. What do we get, Windows Media Player that looks exactly the same boring way as it did 12 years ago on XP. Really?? Same features and functions too. NO NEW FEATURES AT ALL? We can actually thank lawyers for part of that, why, they sued MS for monopolizing its features on Windows. Try hooking up TV, and that gets more complicated too. Instead of windows getting smarter or including more features, we get a bland communism of nothing. What does a win10 computer do? Not much, inherently, but will play video and music on its ten year old player. I didn’t even get a FREE freecell card game.I never thought I’d say it, but the days of the computer nerd are numbered, and we are just going to be using tablets or Apple computers in the future. You can’t do anything with an Apple computer either, unless you buy expensive software. When they break, we toss them out instead of replacing some worn out parts. The apps on the MS site seem absolutely worthless to me. Remember the old days of buying a box with software in it, installing it, and marveling at its uses, gone! We useta know our next door neighbors too, but they don’t speak English anymore. There are a number of sites on the internet that will show you approx’ 4 ways to block win10 from updating or upgrading, and bricking yer computer. Go there! One meters or blocks the amount of data your wifi can download, which blocks upgrades. The simple one is turning off updates or delaying updates, but MS updater knocks those walls down easily now. Two other more effectual fixes involve going in to the registry and turning off or disabling updates on a more permanent basis. I’ve done all 4 these after reloading my computer three times in a month!! Hopefully this fixes the fixers of MS. My Creative Titanium X-Fi sound card works perfectly now, but has no quick launch console. The features are split in two windows, but everything is there, from bass to EAX functions. I have virtually no updates on the win10 now. MS says it will block updates some time in the future, if you don’t stay up to date, GREAT!! I just tried to download and play the recent demo version of the Tomb Raider Shadows game on STEAM and it is telling me I don’t have enough updates to play it, oh well. You can’t win, for trying to win.I can’t go back to win7 on this computer, because I’ve installed an M.9 Samsung SSD HD for win10, and the options for installing win7 on it seemed like too much work. Should have kept my Samsung SSD on there and then put win7 on this win10 mess, and may still. Would pick up all features on my Creative card, video card, and the best thing, Media Center(TV, DVD, radio, videos, music, pictures, and more). Win10 provides heartache galore though. My Google Chrome runs awesome with not one update on win10. See, I can say something nice. I feel like the guy that owns the fastest car in town, but it is always at the mechanics shop and needing tuneups. My bottomline advice, get a decently fast computer, Intel i5 or i7 processor based, and put windows 7 on it, and it will run win7 like you’ve never seen a computer run, fast. When MS shuts off all downloads for win7, we will be forced to buy win12 communism. I recently rebuilt a friend’s computer on win7. I got him a 32″ Dell HD monitor, and a decent video card for his stock HP computer, and he now has a classically fast Cadillac version of windows 7. He can’t believe the difference. Forget win10, if you can. Good luck folks.Original review before upgrades: First, DO NOT UPGRADE!! BUY THE DISC FOR $100!! All the reviews on Amazon that slam Windows 10 are from non-verified purchases from FREE upgrades through Windows Update. They all ran here to complain about their poor decision to try and get something for FREE. If you want the best operating system, BUY IT, and have it run perfectly, NOT UPGRADE. UPGRADE ONLY, if your time isn’t worth anything and you have hours to spend on line getting it to work properly. Spin the wheel and get lucky? Most all the positive reviews for Windows 10 are from verified Amazon purchases of the disc. My friend got her laptop to upgrade because she knows computers and spent a lot of time with Microsoft on the telephone. Here’s my Amazon’d system I built:01. i7-4790k LGA115002. Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H motherboard03. Gigabyte Nvidia GTX960 Windforce 3fan 4gb vidcard04. Kingston 4x8gb HyperX Fury 1866mhz PnP(non xmp)05. Samsung EVO 500gb SSD(upgraded to Samsung M.9 500gb)06. D-Link Extreme dual band DWA-556 wireless pcie card07. Windows 10pro 64bit08. Antec High Current Gamer 850psu09. Coolermaster Hyper EVO212 cpu fan(20-40c)10. Coolermaster Scout 2 ATX case11. Pioneer BD-rw BluRay/DVD/CD writer12. (next) Hauppauge 2255 HDTV pcie tuner(never did install)I put all these parts in the case and loaded Windows 10, and went to pour some coffee. It always takes a while to run a new build. I returned with my coffee, and the computer was asking what I wanted to do next, done, WHAT? Made me want to build these 4 profit it was so easy. Maybe I should have loaded win7 and spent a couple days upgrading, hahahahaha!!I decided to test how efficient win10 was on a tough customer. My i7-860 was starting to slow down on the higher settings for the new Tomb Raider game. I loaded win10 with 16gb of memory and onboard Intel Graphics. TR would surely win this matchup. Nope, the system ran TR on normal just like my other i7 computer with win7. I have never seen a video game run on motherboard graphics, crazy!! Once I loaded the GTX 960 vidcard, TR had no chance, and rolled over to play dead at the ultimate high settings. The newly replaced start menu is a nice compromise for all us familiar with Windows. I loaded up Cortana the verbal assisstant for the new win10. I need to get a new microphone, but the interface seemed to work quite well, and responded to my commands even with my crummy microphone. I know I have others stashed somewhere, but can’t find ’em. I does take a little time to get it going, and the there are prompts that seem to go nowhere at times.I put Adobe Lightroom and Nero 2015 on the win10 and all seem to run perfectly. The app for movies, TV, and music took quite a while to load and haven’t been back to it yet but it did work. I have quite a bit of media, but Nero loaded much faster. I want to remind everyone that the crown jewel in the Windows world is not around anymore, MCE. Media Center ran TV, music, movies, Netflix, photos, etc. from one slick interface. That is history. You are now left to fend for yourself on how to get TV and other media to play. Between lawsuits and tired of answering questions, Microsoft wants to only be an operating system with you using apps like a Mac computer. Is the day of the tweaker a thing of the past? All the hardware old and new I threw at it has run wonderfully. Most of the hardware and software from recent years has been updated to win10 drivers. Even some of the old drivers work too. I’ve been running win10 for only a month and am looking forward to using my new usb3.0 ports with 3.0 equipment I’ve owned for a couple years now, but ran on 2.0 this whole time. This computer is very fast, and restarts so fast it is nutty. I noticed in the Gigabyte motherboard bios it had two settings for faster booting, really, how is that possible? The minute you hit the restart button Win10 is back? It is already lightning fast to restart on slow mode?I will try to update this once I’ve had some experience, hopefully still good.

OSWith a strong love for Windows 7, I am glad to say the switch to Windows 10 was worth it. Since Windows 8 was not a hit to most consumers, Microsoft designed Windows 10 to bring in the beneficial aspects of Windows 7 and 8 as one. With my personal machine, this OS runs flawlessly.PURCHASE:For the price, this is a good buy. Sure, you can purchase this else where for cheaper, but you may end up purchasing a bootlegged or fragile copy. When receiving this product, the disc was encased in a hard square envelope.INSTALLATION:Installation was fast, simple, and interactive. Similar to Windows 8, Windows 10 allows the user to personalize their profile, by selecting colors and pictures as desired. Not necessary, but a nice, sleek touch. On my machine, installation took about 5 minutes.MY ISSUE:There has been one notable inconvenience to mention. I frequently play games on my machine, specifically, Grand Theft Auto 5. In some instances, when backing out of the game to the home screen to check an email (for example), then re-entering the game, I find that the games controls soon become controls for the OS. What do I mean? When I begin to move my character, for instance, rather than actually moving my character, the OS interprets that button as an activation key for one of the widgets for Windows 10.This was my biggest issue. Other than this, with a good PC, this OS will be great!

I bought this at the suggestion of my brother when creating my first PC build I don’t think he realized it was a disc because he forgot to suggest a DVD drive when I showed him my final choices (for my first ever self build). I realized it with enough time to purchase a cheap external cd/dvd drive that others had said would work to install on a new build (about 20$), which was fine because I would have bought one eventually anyway. After some initial, unrelated troubleshooting I finally got the PC to boot to where I could check the bios and such. I restarted the computer with the external drive and this disc inside and it began the installation process. The code is a small silver piece on the sticker and just very gently use a penny or other coin to scratch off. When it asked for the code I plugged it in with the help of a family member who came over when I was doing the troubleshooting (a cord wasn’t plugged into the PSU correctly) reading it off to me and it worked.I’m not sure why others had trouble with it accepting the code, but I guess I was lucky in that it worked for me and windows installed correctly and I am now writing this review on my newly built PC with all newly aquired (those some gently used) parts!Accomplishment unlocked!

This is kind of a long saga, so bear with me. Firstly, I like Windows 10. It works very well for me, and is a worthwhile upgrade from Windows 7/8/8.1 if you’re getting it as a free upgrade.I built a computer, and needed Windows 10 Pro 64 for it. The cheapest price on Amazon was through an outside company (not fulfilled by Amazon), and it had fast shipping, so I ordered it.When the media arrived, I was hesitant about the physical appearance of the DVD and Certificate of Authenticity. The general rule is that the disc and COA should match up to what is on https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/howtotell/Software.aspx#Packaging website. It gives details about what to look for to identify fake microsoft install media. Here’s what was suspect about my media:1. The DVD inner hologram appears to be a sticker attached to the DVD surface rather than embedded in the disc itself.2. The arrow on the inner ring that is supposed to line up with an arrow in the outer ring? Well, there was no matching hologram in the outer band of the disc (and therefore no matching arrow).3. The label creating the inner hologram has several chunks of something like coarse dust or grit trapped between the label and the upper disc surface. This debris is visible from the bottom of the disc. The hologram is not centered about the hole in the DVD, it is off-center slightly. It looks like the label was applied in a dirty environment and got contaminated.4. The COA is supposed to have intaglio printing on the left side of the label. Intaglio printing is where the printing is embossed into the paper surface under high pressure, causing the paper to have ridges where the printing is (like the fingerprints of your fingers or the surface of US paper money) . On my COA, the printing is normal across the entire label surface but then the maker ran it through an embosser to create a coarsely grooved surface. Unfortunately, their overlay sucked and the embossed pattern is not in the same area as the printing. Not even close. And it doesn’t feel at all like intaglio printing. The M which is supposed to appear and disappear based on the angle (a cool side-effect if the intaglio printing process) is just always visible, no intaglio effect at all.Based on these details, I contacted Amazon and arranged to return this media pack for refund, and I ordered another one. This time, I order from a company that fulfills through Amazon. When it arrived, I was astonished to find that it looked similar.:1. The outer sleeve labels were both printed on Printer No 799, and said that both kits were made in the USA. Strangely enough, both packs came from the *same carton* MMCA11507049369. From two different companies in two different states (KY and NV)… figure the odds of them being from the same carton.2. Comparing the DVDs,The hologram labels on the disks looked the same. The underlying DVDs were different, with different part numbers and fonts, and the first disc is boldly printed “Made in Puerto Rico”.3. The COA looked pretty much the same.I called Microsoft Support, and spoke to their representative. He listened to my explanation of the discrepancies in the install media, but didn’t seem concerned about the appearance. I gave him one of the license keys (starts with 8NH22) and he verified that it is a valid Windows 10 Pro install key. His advice was to just use the keys and don’t worry about the physical media condition. I asked if he could send me that advice in writing, but he’s not allowed to send emails. So, to make a long story shorter, cancelled the return of the first media, used it for installing windows, and I have a spare license for future use. I will copy this dissertation and send it to the Microsoft Counterfeit Reporting site (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/howtotell/cfr/report.aspx). If they don’t care, then I’m done with expending calories on this.By the way, when I went to install Windows 10, the dropdown menu for choosing language only gave me a choice of English (UK) rather than English (US). Since I am not from the UK, I put the disc aside and used a USB installer that I had previously made using the Media Creation Tool. Looking back on it, that was a wise move. If the disc is really counterfeit, there is no way of knowing what malware might have been injected into it.Back to Windows 10, it works great for me. It’s fast, with a small memory footprint. I always deselect all the intrusive recommended choices during install, and delete a bunch of the preinstalled junkware and advertising links after installation.I’m giving 5 stars for Windows 10 itself, but subtracting 1 star for the hassle of attempting to resolve the fake software through Amazon and Microsoft.I’ve included images to this review, which show:1. The disc hologram label with no matching outer hologram (note the inner arrow which points to… Nothing.).2. The underside of the hologram, showing debris trapped in the adhesive)3. Intaglio printing showing the 3d effect. You can feel the ridges where the ink is.4. Two images of the COA where it’s supposed to intaglio. Note the reflections where the label was embossed… Which is not anywhere close to the words/printing that matches.

It gets you the Windows license key. That’s really it. Not many people have DVD readers anymore, but this license is somehow cheaper than the digital download. Just get this and then download onto your own USB to save a few bucks. Plus, you can get a more recent updated version so you don’t have to do more updates.

I bought this product for a pc I’m building for another person. I did not want to use my MS account on someone else’s computer. You get a disk (I used a USB from the MS site, faster.) and an activation code that works.Other reviews will tell you how to bypass the windows to get a local account, so I’m not going to repeat that here.Very happy with this, and now you don’t need to worry about an activation code from some other online vendor. Note that this is more expensive, but it’s from Amazon. So I trust.

As a 26 year tech professional I have been using operating systems including Windows since (version 2.1) Yes 2.1, it was a special version that came with Adobe Pagemaker. I have also supported all Windows OSes at the enterprise level on desktops and laptops and can honestly say, that Microsoft finally made a stable environment, if it is run with current hardware. Don’t install this on anything less than 8GB of RAM or anything less than i5; it will run on less but it will be slow. What I am most impressed about is the seemingly upgrade of Windows over the Internet. I updated my laptop Toshiba i5 4GB ram and it took about 30 minutes. I am familiar with supporting Windows server and so I know what tweaks to make on Windows to optimize it. Glad to say that on Windows 10 there is not much to do, other than to turn off some items regarding privacy and adds. I don’t like the use of app store and the fact that Microsoft auto-updates apps like photo and contacts. I like to use my own and prefer to keep those on a separate device so they won’t be comprised. I do love Windows Defender and security options, finally I don’t have to buy a separate Anti-Virus tool, I can just run Malware bytes periodically.

A word of warning… I received the advertised product and the key unused and still covered by the scratch and sniff covering. I was able to install windows 10 pro with the key code. HOWEVER, and this is a big however, I was not able to authenticate with the key code once the operating system was up and running. When I attempted to authenticate the product via the online method, it stated that my product key had already been used previously. I cried “thief” and “swindler”! However, I found it hard to believe that my product key had been used given its pristine state it had arrived in at the time of receipt and I proceeded down the customer support rep route to see if I could solve the issue. As mentioned, I had to scratch the gray covering to reveal the product key (similar to the scratch-off lottery tickets). This at least gave me some confidence that I was the first one to reveal the product code, but I couldn’t be sure as to if it had been somehow previously used by trial and error by someone who was trying to ‘fake’ or guess a real key code and just got lucky.Long story short, I was able to authenticate. But it does require some leg work on your end to fully authenticate. If you don’t authenticate with microsoft (MS), your OS will be a bit ‘nerfed’. I contacted MS customer support via online chat (I believe you can call as well) and I was able to verify that my product key was indeed authentic and had never been used prior to my use and that I had to essentially authenticate offline with the customer support rep who walked me through the process. All in all, it did take another extra 30-45 mins to authenticate via the MS representative, but it got done and I now have a full windows 10 pro install for a fair price. So tread carefully if you don’t want the 30-45 minute chat with MS customer support to fully authenticate your copy of windows 10 pro.

This is the opinion of an engineering student and entrepreneur. Take my review for what it’s worth to you.PROS:-Faster than Windows 7 x64 (boot, game load times, ect.).-Sleeker and faster VLC Media player (huge plus for me as a movie buff).-Sleeker and faster Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus (another big plus for me as a student).-Start Menu has more customization in regards to labeling my start menu with headers and putting things in order of how I want them to be.CONS:- TP-Link TL-WDN4800 wireless card has no driver support. Not the problem of Microsoft but the company thatmade the wireless card but still a pain none the less. I have Internet (i.e. able to connect to my router and browse / download) but inregarding to heavy usage (i.e. gaming) it lags and shows it’s not fully supported. Will have to upgrade to a newer wireless card – sigh.- Unable to completely disable or choose what updates that get installed to my OS. I knew Professional doesn’t allow full freedom and rights here but I will complain because I have the right to do so. Fix this Microsoft because future software developers like me will apply for jobs to Linux and tell others to do so. Don’t anticipate my job application. Ever.- Further protest continued: Invasive settings by default to my privacy despite the news and backlash all around the world. I have disabled everything possible and purchased a product called, “GuardedID” by a company called StrikeForce (who actually just recently won a patent infringement lawsuit against Microsoft over their products – ironic? I think not.):Amazon (physical product for purchase):https://www.amazon.com/Strikeforce-GuardedID-Keystroke-Encryption-Software/dp/B019WHYU1Q/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1468630988&sr=8-2&keywords=guardedid*Note: You can also buy this directly off their website and they have a smartphone software as well.*This is ultimately the one star dock off for this product. I should not have to purchase a keystroke encryption software to use an OS I purchased for my personal use. Pure infuriation.Overall, a solid OS with the best features for any PC or laptop. I have always been a fan but to say this current OS doesn’t make Microsoft a necessary evil without keystroke encryption software? Is kidding themselves.I recommend, but only with precautions and actions taken listed.~Regards to Microsoft and all users.UPDATE:As further disclosure I also recommend Spybot Anti-beacon (free software) for further disabling Microsoft in collecting data on youractivity. People like, “Barnacules Nerdgasm” on YouTube offer great insight if you really want to go all out in making this OS privacy proof.2 UPDATE:Please disregard the CON on the point of the TP-Link TL-WDN4800 wireless card not having adequate driver support. I’ve discovered that my router had reverted to its default settings and was sole the reason why my Internet was not handling heavy online gaming (i.e. the 5GHz band was on a low channel; you want the highest channel possible for stronger transmit strength).~Cheers

Windows 10 has a lot of great new features. The addition of the Windows Store which allows users to easily install/uninstall apps from a safe location is something regular users will enjoy. Sure the Windows Store doesn’t have all the apps the Google Play Store or Apple App Store has, but you can install full blown programs from the web such as Microsoft Office, the Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, etc. A lot of people give Windows 10 a bad rep, but for those who do not like change, they can easily stick with Windows 7 or whatever operating system they choose. I have a gaming pc, a Surface Pro 3, and a Microsoft Lumia 950 which runs Windows 10 Mobile. Since my PC and mobile devices share the same OS, I get a consistent user experience and awesome syncing across all of my devices. Also enjoy that I can play my Xbox One games, through the Xbox app via streaming and have done that many times. Being able to play my Xbox One in any room of my home through my Surface Pro 3 wirelessly is awesome! For those who complain about data and privacy, hope you don’t use Google services because there is a reason why most of their offerings are free.

I completed my gaming rig build (Which is a custom water cooled rig using 3/4OD tubing) This Rig has best high end parts except for the graphics card EVGA SC 980Ti, not the Titan but thats ok. I wanted to have the latest Win OS and see for myself if I liked it. I really hated Win 8 because it was pain the ass to do things simple tasks! Having to move your mouse to a corner to navigate to another window was annoying. Ive been using Windows 10 Pro for almost a month now and it is eye candy. Its not a pain to navigate and has lots of options and Apps if you like that sort of thing for home use. Im enjoying exploring what all Windows 10 can do, like the Xbox app! My family will be enjoying that and I foresee never buying another XBOX again. Windows still continues to have multiple ways to get to different functions, for example you can choose to go to settings or control panel to see the different functions for Windows 10. For me I still like using Control Panel but wish Microsoft would try to keep things simple.Windows 10 to me just feels like how one would use a smart phone and its App but still continues the old school XP, Vista, or Win 7 experience with the start option. To me Windows 10 works well and there really hasn’t been much as far as functionality that has annoyed me. That being said the other concerns about Microsoft and Privacy is a concern! For me, I just want things to work and not deal with stupid glitches and so far everything is working well! I can play my BF games and not have issues. Firefox, Chrome and IE & Edge work well and have no issues streaming my videos from Amazon! I will say also if you install 3rd party antivirus software (Nortons) it will over ride Windows security functions and some Windows updates will not install because it will be disabled. I say if your on the fence about buying this OS just do it! I like it. Im sure some time down the line will notice other things I won’t like but for now Im enjoying it. I would avoid downloading this version and installing via usb, its better to have a disc, but you have to have a disc drive! During my installation of this OS I temporarily connected a disc drive for installation then removed it.

In short, it does exactly as described in the video here on Amazon. I’m very pleased to have my OS back.

I’m all about finding the lowest cost for an item, and this OEM version, where OEM basically means “no support from Microsoft” which I don’t need (I have interwebs!).So I scratch and sniff open the Product Key while using a USB loaded with the MS download of Win 10 as my initial install.”INVALID ACTIVATION CODE”. Dang, really?OK, so I will try this with the version on the CD inside the envelope. Literally two hours to copy off the CD and onto my thumb drive. I run that install version.”INVALID ACTIVATION CODE”. Again?Go back and read some reviews of people getting used keys. I am not happy. Then while gathering all the pieces to send back I notice this is really really secure packaging. I had to tear open a sealed envelope to get to the disk. The Product Key was under a scratch off covering. No one could have seen that,So meanwhile I had installed Windows without the key (they let you do that? Wow!) Surf out how to enter the activation key again, try that…I have reading glasses on, and am being very careful to inspect each and every letter. I clean off the scratch off fluff again, and a letter that previously looked like a “P” now sure nuff looked like an “F” So I tried the “F”.Bingo, registered!Good software, good value, would buy again.

I bought this for my Dell lap top . I later found out that Dell was not going to build drivers for my unit to run this software. So do the due diligence before you order this and see if you have compatible hardware to run this…

This review is focused on the product itself – not on the Windows 10 operating system. Just do a web search on Windows 10 reviews for that purpose. For OEM or new system builds, all you really need is the COA since Microsoft makes the installation files available online. However, it’s nice to have a licensed, complete DVD on hand for system repairs and recovery (yes, you can burn your own later using ISO files, but if you are doing a PC build and need to buy the COA anyway, why not get an official DVD?). Also, you get the official Microsoft COA sticker that you can afix to your new PC for easy reference later. If you already have Windows 7/8/8.1 and a COA/authorized copy of Windows, you don’t need to buy this product. You should go through the upgrade option already available via your desktop tray (you know, the one that keeps asking you to upgrade free to Windows 10). NOTE: see comment below on Custom installation and opting out of data collection. It is simply packaged – paperboard encased DVD and Certificate of Authenticity (COA) – needed for verification step. It was easily installed, faster than previous OS installs, requires very little disk space and it’s quick to boot up.One BIG recommendation and reason for deducting one star: the embedded data collection in this OS. During initial installation, make sure you choose the Custom installation route (NOT the Express or Default install option). It will walk you through all the options for privacy and data collection features and allow you to opt out of each one. Trust me, it’s an eye-opener how much data Microsoft will export if you don’t opt out.

There are lots of reviews here saying this product is counterfeit. I’m not sure if this is true or if the user didn’t know what they were doing. I have bought several of these in the past and had relatively no problems. This is the first copy of Windows 10 that I bought that I did have a problem with, and it was mostly my fault. First of all this is a “system builder OEM” copy. This means there are no frills, no USB install device included, no box or otherwise fur-fru included. Just a white CD sleeve with the COA sticker and the DVD inside. Recently Microsoft started coating a silver square that must be scratched off like a lottery ticket, over the product key stickers. The problem I had was that on the COA sticker with the square “scratch off” sticker on top of the COA product key. I’ve never seen this before. The instructions on the DVD sleeve say to peel the COA sticker off and affix it to the computer after installation. It says nothing about “carefully scratch off the sticker” to reveal the rest of the COA license #. Stupid me didn’t recognize it as a scratch sticker and attempted to remove the sticker off of the COA. Big time FAIL! You cannot remove this, you MUST scratch it off to reveal the license key #. So when I tried to peel off the scratch cover it ruined the COA underneath making it unreadable. Long story short, I called Microsoft activation support help line, their technician remotely logged in to my computer and activated it with a new license key.Edit: I bought two more of these products. This time I attempted to scratch off the square silver sticker covering the key number. BOTH times it resulted in a ruined COA license that was TOTALLY unreadable! After doing a Google search on the Microsoft support site I found a thread where MANY people are having the exact same problem with this OEM version of Windows 10. It was reported that Microsoft got a bad batch of silver scratch stickers that cannot effectively be scratched off without ruining what’s underneath. Because of this, I am going to reduce this from 4 stars to 1 star until Microsoft gets it together. Personally, I think this scratch off sticker is plain STUPID! Are you listening Microsoft?

Windows, so much brooh ha ha about something so essential. I bought this for a brand new system build that I would not be able to upgrade from an existing Windows (7 and 8.1)installation. As with any new issue of an OS there were many changes. Most were improvements, speed being the best. Built in drivers for the newest peripherals being the next.Things that annoyed me:On my SOHO machines I don’t need bells and whistles, really just about ANY bells and whistles. Stores, voice activated, yada yada. Microsoft has to cater to those people and let them believe it is a necessary element of their lives. I like a simple interface to run my programs on.I cleared most of that out and have a machine dedicated to just my “Pro”ductivity. I like it.Windows 8.1 still on my laptop, has yet to be “cleaned out”, but I will go for the free 10 update before I do that. My other tower at home, running Windows 7, will get a new motherboard and then upgraded to 10 also. Really, there is no need to hang on to Windows 7, or 8.1, with the Windows 10 OS out.

I went from Windows XP on my old PC to Windows 10 on the computer I just finished assembling. It’s an adjustment, but overall, I’m satisfied with the new interface. It IS a learning curve, so prepare for that. I only took off a star due to some hiccups I had with the installation/setup:- Windows defaulted the system date/time to May 2068, so no web pages were displaying correctly. While I couldn’t figure out the problem at first, I did eventually realize the problem and manually corrected it (for some reason, Windows would not automatically adjust the date/time, even when connected to the internet.)- Some difficulties figuring out how to set up my hard drives to work with the OS, and Microsoft’s own help forums were not exceptionally helpful (or rather, they just didn’t point me to exactly where I needed to go. I figured it out through trial-and-error.)- Had trouble activating my copy of Windows; I kept receiving a message the product key was already in use. I was able to activate via Microsoft’s automated phone system, however.Overall, I’m very pleased with the product, though, and look forward to figuring out more of its bells and whistles.

I was previously running Windows 7, and kept receiving notifications to upgrade to Windows 8. Well, I decided I might as well just upgrade to the latest, Windows 10. So far it’s been a pretty frustrating experience. When I first tried installing it, it seemed like the activation key was nowhere to be found. I went back to read other reviews and people were having the same problems, or had found their key had been used already. After reading other reviews and examining the packaging, I finally found it: THE ACTIVATION KEY IS UNDER THE SILVER MICROSOFT LOGO ON THE SLEEVE THE DISK COMES IN. IT IS A SCRATCH OFF STICKER, JUST LIKE A LOTTERY CARD. I used my fingernail to carefully reveal it.However, once installed I ran into several other problems. Many of these can be solved by going online and looking up solutions, updating drivers, etc. My main issue is that my internet speed seems to be throttled. There are several fixes I found online. I tried them all, and I think it’s working a bit better, but it was quite a hassle. Administrator mode is turned off, and you have to turn it on through the command window. Then you have to type in some commands to look at and change certain settings. From what I’ve read, Windows 10 basically hogs a lot of bandwidth to run updates or apps in the background, and you have to find ways to turn these off. So at the moment I wish I would have stuck with Windows 7 or just upgraded to 8, but we’ll see how it goes. I should not that I chose to keep my old files and apps. I transferred my important files to an external hard drive beforehand, but perhaps it would be running more smoothly if I had completely wiped the rest of the drives clean as well.

Don’t install the OS with defaults through the “express” install, or at least go into the settings area afterward and consider disabling as many things as you can in the privacy area. The more you show that you care about privacy, the more MS should likely listen to us.I managed to get this through Amazon warehouse deals for a discounted price, which turned out well. The envelop was scuffed up, but appeared still sealed and the license activated seemingly without issue. I needed a new license for a computer from parts I was building and went for PRO because of the virtual machine features compared to Windows 10 Home.Potential privacy issues aside, the OS itself seems solid for me overall. From a usability and productivity standpoint, it’s my favorite Microsoft OS by far. Going back to older versions reminds me of the subtle improvements they made with 10 that I use such as docking and the start menu where I can basically fit all of the programs I use 95% of the time. I have most of the install-default tiles removed from the start menu, but the weather tile and money tile are great for me personally. I like having those two tiles set to live so I can keep track of things I feel are important. That said, some of the basic apps MS includes with the OS are decent. There are a few things such as the “all apps” area that feels like a downgrade compared to the older MS operating systems. Along with that, it’s irritating that some updates re-installed metro apps I had uninstalled and there are a few that either can’t be removed or need some special commands to remove (*cough*… to get rid of the XBox app I started an admin elevated Windows PowerShell console and inputted the command: Get-AppxPackage *xboxapp* | Remove-AppxPackage … your results may vary, try at your own risk and such)The big elephant in the room is in regard to the who what when where and why of Microsoft taking and using data it pulls from our operating system installs. There are some benefits I can agree to such as a more stable and protected OS, but it needs to be done openly and within reason. There is some user control, but I will always want more and want to be given more details on what they take and what they do with the data. I’m not OK with MS turning the operating system into a service. An operating system is like a person’s house. At times I’d let a maintenance worker come in to fix or check on things, but I should decide who what and when things should happen.

I found the change from Win 7 to Win 10 was not as bad as I had feared. You WILL want to disable ALL of the Microsoft telemetry ‘features’ as much as you can, and there are several good articles you can find on internet searches and on Youtube to help you do this. I spent a couple of hours customizing settings and am quite pleased with Win 10 so far. I truly wonder (in the future) whether advanced PC games that use DirectX 12 will be better. I moved my 93 year old father from Win 7 to Win 10 and he has adapted to it well AFTER I changed a lot of settings to make it look and feel like Win 7. Pair it with an SSD and this thing loads up very quickly. MAKE SURE you have the Nov. ’15 update installed! That update made a lot of beneficial improvements to Win 10, imo. This version of Win 10 Home 64-bit is tied to your MOBO’s ID. I have not yet tried to install it on a replacement boot disk, so I can’t advise on whether this SW edition will let me ‘re-install it’.

First I went ahead and got this as I wanted a copy on a older type media that I could install from a DVD. This fit the bill. I’ve installed OEM versions before (My Windows Vista was one), so this shouldn’t cause me any problems. I plan on holding off using this copy till my Win 8.1 Pro system updates to Win 10 Pro as I have reserved the upgrade and then see. I tend to “hedge my bets” and if things don’t go so good on my Win 8.1 Pro upgrade, then I can wipe the drive and I have a version ready to go. (I tend to like clean installs anyway, but wanted to see what developed with Win 10 Upgrade.) So now I have the OS and a new WD Velociraptor 1 TB drive to put it on…..I should be ready to go no matter what…..!Update: If you plan on using this to update an OEM version of Win Home to Pro you will have a problem at first. I found this out when I got a used computer with Win 10 Home on it and tried to use this to upgrade to Pro. It wouldn’t let me. Tried a number of times thru the “change product key item” but to no avail. Finally discovered how to do so by searching around on the web. It seems that you must have an un-activated Win Pro on your system first then your key will be accepted. There is a default key that upgrades Home to Pro BUT doesn’t activate it. This is where your key comes in. After you’ve used the default key to get to the un-activated Pro you then select “change key” and use the one that comes with your DVD and it will then activate the OS with the new key. A bit of a round about way to get your purchase activated but it worked for me.

It gets you the Windows license key. That’s really it. Not many people have DVD readers anymore, but this license is somehow cheaper than the digital download. Just get this and then download onto your own USB to save a few bucks. Plus, you can get a more recent updated version so you don’t have to do more updates.

So I trust.

Been using for approximately a month now and no issues for me yet. I have one older AIO printer that I feared would not work; the manufacturer does not have a Win 10 driver (yet?). Regardless, the Win 8.1 driver works just fine.I am a gamer and was concerned I would have problems in that arena, but so far, I have had no issues. Note: Obviously I have not tried ALL games, but have had no issues with three of my biggest games; Skyrim, Dragon Age Inquisition, and Witcher 3.Overall, the system is kind of a nice blend of Win 7 and Win 8.1 (the best of each with changes). With Win 8.1, I had to use a third party interface that emulated Win 7 to even function (and I’m a retired I.T. guy). There is a “small” learning curve in finding certain functions, but plenty of online help to get you through the questions or just (like me) blunder around until you find the answer. Not a big deal. After a month, I am now quite confident in moving around and making changes in my system. I’m sure there will be a Service Pack down the road that will tweak the system to improve it’s functionality even more (hopefully Microsoft will listen to customer’s suggestions and complaints when creating the Service Pack).

Pros:• Pretty decent operating system, once you get it configured the way you want it.• It is fast and responsive, and some of the features (such as the startup tab on the process manager, showing you what you have running on startup and the startup speed impact) are quite nice.Cons:• LOTS of advertising from the OS itself – Microsoft seems to have missed the memo that people HATE popups. No, I don’t want to try Office365. No, I don’t want to give you feedback. No, I don’t care about your “great offers”.• Privacy settings are not all centrally located – you have to go to several different places to turn them all off. Google “Windows 10 privacy settings” or similar for some guides.• Startup menu, by default, is a fail-parade. It’s enormous, and has tons of “pins” showing lots of information I don’t care in the slightest about, including more advertising. You can, however, right-click items on the menu and un-pin them, and then resize the start menu to something acceptable.• Logging in can be a pain – if you let the OS know you have a Microsoft account of any kind, it will automatically link itself to it, and then you’ll have to enter the password for that online account to log in, rather than the password you set at install. It doesn’t come out and tell you this either – and it can be a hassle if you store your passwords in something like LastPass or KeePass, since you can’t get to them if you can’t log on. This is another setting that can, fortunately, be changed. (System Settings -> Manage My Account -> “Sign in with an off-line account instead”)Other/Neutral:• I still prefer the look and feel of Windows 7 – I’m not wild about the tablet-ized interface, it just feels silly on a destop PC. And stop calling programs “apps”, please. It’s just silly.OVERALL:2 stars out of the box, 4 stars once you take the time to configure it.

If you already have windows 10 home installed and looking to upgrade to windows 10 pro with this, it will not work. You need to format, delete partition, and install from scratch using this CD + key provided. If you already had custom programs installed it is more of a headache but if you get a new computer, it only took me around 1 hour to reinstall windows 10 pro + drivers. The best thing I like about windows 10: fuzzy search. Hit start button, start typing “notep” and hit enter. Notepad will come up. If you try that with windows 8 or below, an explorer window will come up trying to search for miscellaneous files that have the phrase “notep” in them. You had to type in the full phrase in windows 8 or below. It really comes in handy! Also better file indexing, more efficient use of ram compared to other windows versions. There are a lot of negatives though. I won’t touch up on them here but mostly incompatibility with a lot of peripherals and vendor hardware that causes DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION blue screens.

So my first review got canned by Amazon for being satirically honest. So this time I will drop the satire:Windows sucks. This is the first Windows install we’ve done in many years, and we only did so because the gubbermint requires its use. The gubbermint sucks more than Microsoft. At least MS doesn’t have guns and badges to force you into compliance. I know we all figured Microsoft would eventually get that kind of power, but it looks like Google will be first to own a private army of hunter-killer droids with a license to shut down dissenters. Question: will the upcoming Amazon droids gain sentience and join humans in the resistance? I sure hope so. I have Prime subscriptions that I need delivered.Anywho…I installed this in a vacuum – otherwise known as a virtual guest. It survives (barely) as a guest on a Linux host, which basically firewalls the ever-loving crud out of the OS. It only allows connections to the .gov hosts that are too feeble to understand anything but MS APIs. There are no shared files, no shared links and if the thing ever again tries to connect to Bing using Windows Exploder I swear I will double-tap the CPU.Thought project: have you ever considered that perhaps the people in .gov who require MS software can “double-click” kickbacks from both Microsoft AND the virus makers? Seriously…how else can you explain the horror of the gubbermint using Windows for anything that has the word “secure” in a requirements document?OK…before Amazon sends a droid after me because I strayed too far from the party line …This version of Windows also sucks, but very slightly less. It installed, which is a start over prior versions. It did require a call to the MS License Bureau, where a useless man identified as ‘Mike’ (who worked in Bangalore, India) instructed me to keep hitting the button to request license verification. He didn’t actually do anything technical (by his own admission)…he just kept telling me to hit the button “until it worked”. I think I heard Candy Crush in the background. This version of Windows applies a new face to old (really really old, curmudgeonly, insecure and bloated) code. It offers a multitude of ways you can organize your files to make it easier for you to find your data, and likewise simplifies the lives Commie hackers using zero-day exploits to encrypt your files in exchange for ransom. It’s so common it’s almost as if Windows was tailor-made for such exploits (hmm…).In short, Windows still sucks but only slightly (very slightly) less so.I gave two stars because the thing installed in a virtual container and I only had to call the license people once. My firewalls have contained it so far. Given the history of this code that is a major step up and deserving of that extra star.

I’m not a “fanboy” by any means. I’ve owned and used Apple computers, Linux distributions, every version of Windows and Mac OS, iOS devices, Android devices, and Windows Phones. I just like computers and consumer electronics. I like new software and I like experiencing progress as it happens.Windows 10 is a great operating system. I built a mid-range gaming PC and Windows 10 detected all of my hardware, including a PCI WiFi card, right away. There weren’t hours of updates to wait to download and install. Everything was fairly quick and streamlined. I only saw a “Try Office 365” pop-up once within the first twenty minutes of using the new installation, and that was it.Uninstalling Windows 10/Modern applications is as easy as right clicking and selecting “Uninstall”. I use a mixture of Windows Store apps and built-in Windows programs (Flipboard, Facebook, Groove Music, Netflix, OneNote, Mail, Hyper for YouTube, etc.) and software downloaded from the developer sites (Steam, Origin, Firefox). It’s been about a week and I haven’t had any issues with anything yet. Edge is a great browser, but it doesn’t support extensions… not even an ad blocker, and it doesn’t support tracking protection lists like Internet Explorer does. IE is still in Windows 10, however, so if you like Internet Explorer, you’re not going to lose it. Also, there’s no forced tablet UI (it’s optional and basically expands the start menu into a Windows 8-like tablet interface). If you’re paranoid about the way Microsoft requests privacy permissions (like every other operating system developer and social network, to be fair) to offer services like Cortana, map data, search history, and other conveniences, just don’t allow them. It’s easy enough to figure out.Overall, I think it’s a great addition to the Windows timeline. I just wish they’d stop charging around $100 and up. The old argument was that Microsoft doesn’t sell their own hardware, which is why Apple could get away with charging less, and then eventually giving away their OS updates. But now Microsoft has the Surface and Lumia lines of devices.

I used Windows 10 Pro OEM for a recent Computer build with a MSI Intel Socket 1151 Gaming Motherboard with the latest on board chipset. I tend to have 8 year plus ownership periods, initially build with upper mid-grade components and upgrade components over time as pricing and performance improves. I use the computer for personal affairs, significant Excel spreadsheet work, photo editing and video editing. I love my new snappy computer, but if the truth be told I really could have gotten a couple more years out of my heavily upgraded 2009 Build.I debated going with Windows 10 OEM versus Retail. As my 2009 Computer is still useful and I am hopeful of a long ownership cycle for this motherboard, I went with the OEM version. When I opened the plain looking package I was confused as to what to do next. I did not notice any instructions. At this point I was really wishing I had bought the retail package. On the lower left hand part of the label about ¾ of an inch in is a scrape off label. I used my recently cut fingernails. Underneath it on 3 lines and 6 point font is the product key. There is some protection over it, but it seems quite possible to mess it up if you don’t know what it is. This is a very customer unfriendly process with no instructions that I could find.Once I got past the product key the darn thing loaded and was running well in no time. Windows has really improved over the last several years. The software is worth 4 stars without the label scrape.Tip – I always separate my data drive (Drive D) from the programs and operating system (Drive C) and regularly back each of them separately. I use Windows Explorer to copy my data onto a backup drive and Blu-Ray disks. I use Acronis True Image to make copies of the C Drive. If something goes wrong I simply overwrite what is on the C Drive with my back up image. Windows allows great control over what you do and how you do it. It also allows upgrades to the latest and greatest hardware.

Clean Win 10 Pro install on a blazing fast PC, runs smoothly, quickly, I’m coming to like it more and more.It was time to completely rebuild one of my PCs that had very old hardware and Win 7. I had choices. Did not want to cling to Win 7. I wanted the known performance improvements to the network stack, WDDM, etc that came along with Win 8.X without it’s known UI aggravations. I made a conscious decision to purchase Win 10 Pro.At first I hated the tiles until I learned how to customize them and also create my own. Runs very smooth and fast on Intel i7-4790K 16Gig RAM , Samsung 850 Pro SSD setup. No real complaints here. I have yet to get a blue screen, no OS crashes. I did choose “Custom” install option and opted out of all the nosy nelly information sharing settings with Microsoft. I have no doubt that some remain. C’est L’vie. I have read that people doing an upgrade install instead of a “clean” (fresh) install can supposedly have slow boot issues. I guess I’ll find out when I take the free upgrade offered on my other two older PCs.One review I just read said it about right: “Look at it as Windows 7.5 and you wont be disappointed.”P.S. Note: Some perpective: I avoided Windows 8.X like the plague as I hated the interface. The interface for Win 10 I can work with.Trouble in Paradise? I noticed tonight that while Windows Media Player 12 that comes with Windows 10 allows for ripping files to FLAC,etc., I cannot seem to RIP the songs of my legally purchased Doors “Strange Days” album to my hard drive for my music server. This is a bummer and inconvenience.

This rating applies to both my feelings on the product, and my experience buying/installing it.Windows 10 is all right. It’s slicker and more user friendly than Linux, but not by much, and certainly not enough to justify the cost. Then why buy it? Because I’m a gamer and don’t have the time and/or patience to make all my non-Linux games work on Linux, especially the MMOs that require additional monkeying with everytime they update, only to suffer some degree of performance loss from running the game in a non-native environment. My experience in installing was also very mediocre… I used a USB optical drive to load the install software and was able to get to the part where it asked for my product key. Like many of the commenters below, the software didn’t accept the key, and I began to feel like I got a bad product. Since I had bought it from Amazon Services, I requested a replacement. But while I waited for it to get delivered, I did a little research and I decided to create a USB bootable key and try that instead (Google: ‘Window 10 media creation tool’). Booting the software from the USB key resulted in the program accepting the original key sent, and a full and satisfactory install of the software. Why the install software included on the disk didn’t accept the key when the USB key version did? I have no ideal… but if you’re having problems installing from the disk you might try this. One note: after the installer copies the files to the selected hard drive and does some installation it will tell you Windows needs to restart, and give you a 10-second countdown. REMOVE THE USB KEY at this time, or after the restart it will just boot into the install program again. Now I just have to figure you how to return the unneeded, unused replacement version of the software without having to pay for the shipping on it…

I was happier with Windows 7, but this is a good step up for Windows 8.x. Windows 10 seems to be poorly organized in that to find ordinary things requires using searches. Some of this I believe is due to its wanting you to use the cloud to store your information. In additon Microsoft keeps installing new applications along with the OS updates without asking if it is OK to install each one. There seems to be two desktops, downloads and documents. One under your user diectory and one somewhere else. Often I have to manually go into drive c: and users to find my actual files. Though there are some advantages in storing information in the cloud when you go from machine to machine, most of the time it is of little benefit and suffer from internet bandwidth bottle necks. So there is a general ‘out of control’ feeling to the system.

Great product.Look on youtube for ways to disable the spyware. Microsoft has a lot of tracking options in place setup to automatically send marketing data. Most options can be found under privacy settings. Windows does push automatic downloads without your permission, games like candy crush, minecraft, etc. show up without authorization, but there are easy ways to disable this feature.Performance is excellent and seems to perform better than windows 7. Worth the upgrade once you disable all the marketing nonsense. At time of this review, if you are making the jump from an older version of windows to 10, you should be able to do this for free. You can download the windows 10 installer from Microsoft and begin installation, once you finish the setup process, windows should automatically detect the key you used and windows 10 should be activated automatically. Windows will be bound to your motherboard, so you would have to get a new version if you change computers in the future. Worked for me twice so far using my old Windows activation keys from win7. One time I just updated from an old version of windows and didn’t need to activate the key, it pulled my old windows 7 key automatically. The second time I did a hard reset and fresh install, during activation I used my other windows 7 activation key and it had no issues setting me up for windows 10.I wish I knew this before purchasing this windows cd. I can’t guarantee it will still work, but it looks like Microsoft wants you to upgrade so they can earn more money marketing your data out and push paid games like candy crush to your desktop probably for a fee from the aps company. This CD is great and legit. The packaging was official, arrived on time, and the code was valid. I believe this is an OEM version, which means it binds to your motherboard. If you build a new computer, you may have to buy a new version of windows 10.

I recently started a brand new PC build and I really needed a Windows 10 program, be it flash or CD. I didn’t want to go to some weird website that sold Windows 10 for something dirt cheap, I wanted a real copy for my very first build. After a few short hours of searching the internet for a (cheap) Windows 10 program, I finally found one that would give it to me Same-Day via Prime (full price but oh well!), which is excellent since I’m fairly impatient. The disc and envelope it came in were all legit, Microsoft brand. There was an option to “Conceal” your package before purchasing this item in which I really was going to opt in for, but due to my excitement of getting it Same-Day, I placed the order before I could stop myself from clicking “Place Order”.I popped in the disc for my new PC to boot the official Windows 10. First Try, it worked. The reviews that you see coming from 1-star or complaining about fake codes or anything like that are scammers. They are trying to get more codes out of Amazon or Microsoft so please don’t listen/read into them. I am an actual customer, not some paid Amazon worker or a scammer trying to get you to buy this, this is just a guy, with a bong, with a new pc.Thank you.

I’ve seen several reviews about license keys not working for this product. The first copy I received I was not able to activate because if the invalid license key error. I did a defective / exchange with amazon, and had the same problem with the second copy. This made me wonder if it was something I was doing wrong. I had a Windows 10 ISO from when MS was doing the free upgrades, and I used Windows 7 USB DVD Download tool to create a USB installer. I have used this USB thumb drive created with that ISO on several previous builds with no problems. I also used this thumb drive to build the system “with no product key” and it loaded windows 10, but I could not activate it with the DVD key from product. At this point I went to: […] and created a windows 10 USB install media using their tool. Using that USB stick I was able to install windows 10 using the key from this product. So… If you get invalid key… make sure you are using the correct installation media.

I recently bought an ASUS ROG laptop that came with Windows 8.1 on it. Having come from Windows 7, I wasn’t too keen on 8.1 . When I read that it was Windows 10 ready, I decided to buy this OEM 10 x64 along with an SSD to give the HDD an extra push. I had experimented with Windows 10 TP for work and was satisfied with the results enough to take the plunge. The results have been great. Being a gaming PC builder, I have nothing negative to say about Windows 10. It’ll be even better once game developers start optimizing for Direct X 12. This is the way to go if you’re considering the jump on a machine that had previous versions of Windows installed or even building a new one from scratch. The biggest issue I’ve seen so far is people’s security software being too outdated where it just is not compatible with 10, in fact it actually causes issues with network connectivity. That’s not Microsoft’s fault, FYI.If you’re having issues with this disc, you really ought to consult with your hardware manufacturer in ensuring you obtain the correct drivers for this install. ASUS did not provide all of the drivers that were Windows 10 ready, but the nice thing about Windows 10 is that it allows some flexibility in compatibility with 8.1 drivers. I was able to mix and match a combination of drivers in this way and it has worked just fine. In fact, my laptop would often times have a BSOD when running games on 8.1 . But, ever since switching to 10, that is nonexistent! And, the even further optimizing on an SSD makes it boot insanely fast and load applications without hesitation. Well worth the buy.

For under $100 you get an official copy of Windows 10 Home with a genuine license key from Microsoft. Once it has installed on to your computer, you can then active it online so you can experience everything that Windows 10 Home has to offer. I was somewhat skeptical at first, because I didn’t know what I was going to be receiving upon spending $93 on something I wasn’t entirely sure that was going to work. Anyhow for those who are curious to know, you do get an official copy of Windows 10 Home on a CD/DVD ROM disc. The paperboard encased envelope that it comes in, please be careful to not throw either of the two away…here’s why!? On the front of the paperboard, where the physical copy of the Windows 10 Home disc comes in. Well on the front of that one, there’s a scratch off section where you recover your Windows 10 Home license key after scratching off and removing the silver coating much like a lottery scratch ticket. Also please make sure to be careful, and scratch very…very lightly while scratching off the scratch ticket like silver coating to reveal your Windows 10 Home license key. So you’re all aware, if you scratch too hard like some others have mentioned in previous reviews on here. Then you might end up, scratching too deep where you’ll end up removing the actual paperboard underneath which will damage the license key that’s printed on removing it completely. I personally myself didn’t have any issues whatsoever while scratching away to reveal my Windows 10 Home license key…but just be careful ok!? Once everything was installed, I entered my license key while having access to the internet and my Windows 10 Home was fully activated on my computer. I kinda have to say, that Windows 10 Home in my opinion is a big improvement and a step-up compared to Windows 8.1 Pro. Personally I never liked or really cared for Windows 8.1 Pro at all. Now with Windows 10 Home bringing back the start menu like Windows 7 had, it definitely makes things feel a lot easier to navigate and find things within your own computer. Windows 7 Ultimate is by far one of my favorite version from Microsoft of all time…hands down! Also because of my computer running the latest technology. Such as Intel’s 7th Gen Kaby Lake processor with a B250M motherboard chipset. My system in general only supports Windows 8 and Windows 10 versions of Microsoft’s OS. So another thing to keep in consideration is. Make sure your motherboard’s BIOS can support Windows 10 because like my computer, it can’t support anything lower than Windows 8.Kind regards,-Ryan

I was an avid Windows 7 user for the longest time. When I built my new PC, I basically had to install Windows 10. It was an accepted change, and its close enough to Windows 7 for me to get used to using it. Even like using it, actually. Customizable interface to fit anyone, PC and tablet users alike. When I think about it, it really is the trump card of operating systems.I just don’t like the integrated features that make it seem like an Orwell simulator. Granted, you can “turn off” most of them, but I’m unsure of the actual effectiveness of that. I’ll miss the days of a simple OS, but I accept the changes that Microsoft sees necessary in the newer systems. I just hope they continue to allow us to turn them off.

Installed Windows like it should. I didn’t install with touch screen, so no review input there. I have been building PC’s since the early ’90’s, so no tech support required here. The stability rating I will assume means how well Windows run. That is subjective as I have seen Windows 10 run like a scalded dog and I have seen them run like a sloth. I built this PC using medium hardware. Not the cheapest, but not the most expensive either and she runs great like that dog that got scalded. I also am an IT expert, so I know how to keep a computer running smooth.I only buy Windows when I build a PC for someone, or when I build me a new one (every 5 or so years, and yes Microsoft, I play by the rules and buy a new copy of Windows when hardware is new) to run alongside Linux. I only keep Windows on a machine to keep current so I can fix other people computers. If you are computer savvy in any way, I would recommend to try out a Linux Distro and see how you like it.

I can give a unabashadly positive review to this inexpensive way to upgrade from Home Edition to Professional. There are complications however if you previously upgraded your machine from Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1 Home Edition to Windows 10 Home Edition. You must go through the following step-by-step operation in order to successfully upgrade your Windows 10 Home Edition to Windows 10 Professional….1) My computer originally had Windows 8.1 Home Edition installed on it. I upgraded it to Windows 10 Home Edition in January, 2016. The Activation Type was “Digital Entitlement” which means that Microsoft Update performed the upgrade from Windows 8.1 Home Edition to Windows 10 Home Edition. This “Digital Entitlement” is probably what complicated the upgrade using the Softkey Product Key.2) In order to upgrade using Softkey’s Product Key in this situation, you must perform the following steps: a) Select the button and go to Settings->Update & Security->Activation b) Select the button and enter the following “Default” Product Key — DO NOT ENTER THE SOFTKEY PRODUCT KEY AT THIS TIME!!! VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T c) The upgrade from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Professional will now successfully complete and the computer will reboot a couple of times. d) Once the upgrade process from Home to Professional is complete, Windows 10 Professional will run, but will not be activated. e) To activate using the Softkey Product Key, Select the button and go to Settings->Update & Security->Activation f) Select the button and enter the Softkey-supplied Product Key. Windows 10 Professional will now activate and everything will work.

I heard windows 11 was preferred for Alderlake CPUs, so I got it. The install setup process doesn’t look like 2004 garbage and looks good now. However, it basically forces you to have an internet connect to set up, which is extremely annoying, but there’s videos on how to bypass this on youtube. I bought this back in 2020 because I wanted to have another back up in case anything happened to my computer. Well, my computer was attacked, and I lost everything. Whew, I had this W10 disk. BUT, it turns out that this “new” disk is empty, nothing on it to read? Huh? After all this time, I’m sure there is no recourse, just be aware of what you buy and make sure there is something on the disk when it arrives. I’m going to try to see of Microsoft will fix but I’m not too confident about that.
