The basic concept of this game is – you are the pirate with a crew (2-4 players), and you need to make some money to buy new clothes and ship equipment. You can do so in many different ways. 

You might be doing missions with friends for some alliance, trying to find a treasure by yourself, checking out the islands one by one, or just waiting for some other guys to find a treasure and then, well, taking care of the materials to make sure they’re safe. Just like a pirate does!

Create Your Crew

If you have friends – you’re halfway up there. If not – there are many ways to meet them in Sea of Thieves. First of all – you need to create your character. Check out what suits you from many different option, choose your design and experience the unpredictability of the shared world!

Then, it’s time to decide what kind of crew you want to have. There are essentially three options for you to choose from.

Sloop, Brigantine or Galleon?

For smaller adventures, you can get a small ship for one or two players called sloop. It’s really nimble and easy to navigate, so it’s great for beginners.

The second one is brigantine, and here’s where the game starts. Brigantine is a lot faster than a sloop, probably the fastest in the game, and has a lot greater firepower (sloop has only two cannons). This one can take up to three players, so gather up, boys, we’re going for adventure…

…until we meet the mighty galleon! It’s the hardest to operate, so you will probably need four people to navigate it. It’s big, powerful, and fast, but it is not as maneuverable as the other two. Make sure you’ve brought your raincoat and bucket because there’s a lot of spots to hit on this bad boy!

Game Modes

Before choosing your ship, make sure to choose the game mode you want to play! There are two to choose from, each having something interesting.

You can choose between Adventure mode and Arena Mode to make the most out of your game plan. For some hot and fiery action – choose Arena. If you want to just roam around – adventure is for you!

Adventure Mode

This could be described as the classic mode. You get your ship, pack your bags and go on an adventure! You can follow the Story mode or Tall Tales with some exciting plots to get through with a Pirates of The Caribbean adventure where you get to meet the REAL Jack Sparrow!

The story mode just puts you in one of the Outposts on the map and lets you choose your adventure by earning Gold, Reputation, and Commendations with five main Trading Companies:

• Gold Hoarders, 
• Order of Souls, 
• Merchant Alliance, 
• The Hunter’s Call, 
• the Legendary Athea’s Fortune. 

For some more action, you can always join The Reaper’s Bones. But remember – you may gain more money in the process, but your ship will be visible at all times on the map. So – make sure you’re prepared for some action!

There can be up to six crews on one server, with a maximum of four crew members in each of them. 

The Arena

This is the game mode for everyone who does not wait and chase the enemies and would rather go straight for the action. It’s a PvP experience, where five crews fight against each other at the Sea Dogs Arena.

It’s a 15-minute battle where you need to destroy your enemies or gain the most points to win the game. You can do it by finding a chest and bringing it to the right spot. It’s as easy as that! Also – all the other players will try to destroy your ship in the process, so keep that in mind.

Be a Captain, Take The Water Out!

Grab your friends and hide them in the bushes for some great assault action!

What really makes this game is the gameplay. It’s pretty simple, but the amount of stuff you need to do on the ship just makes it that much better to play.

Essentially, there are a few steps to swimming the ship. Firstly, you need to put the anchor up, which takes time depending on the ship you choose. Then, you need to put the sails up at the right angle and manipulate them as you steer. 

Different Forms of Combat and Weapons

In the meantime, you can get into some fiery cannon action with NPCs and other players on the server. There are many different cannonballs with various effects to put on a ship, such as putting the anchor down, setting the enemy’s ship on fire, or making everyone on the ship dance.

Most of the time, during fights, you’ll be just taking the water out and patching up the ship, but what if you would dance during all of that? That’s the spirit!

You can also get into some sword vs sword combat if you’d like! It’s definitely recommended also to bring your pistol to a swordfight, because, as you may already know, pirates are not really the most trustworthy kind. You can choose from a few different guns – a shotgun, rifle, and handgun. You can only have one at a time, so choose wisely before getting into action!
