    I cannot Believe this!

I had problems installing this software, it asked me for the Key before installing it, after I installed it, it is telling me that the Key has been used by another PC. So, I go to the ¨Call Support¨ option in the Settings panel, so far so good. When I hit the button, I get to select where I am located, which I do, by selecting ¨Panama¨, so I get a toll free number in the states. I dial, and it is a Telemarketing number, offering me Insurance policies, hair products, and running a survey about how old are the people in my house. Come on Microsoft! This is ridiculous! So, I go and select “United States” so I can get a US phone number that may work, and when I call, guess what, the number is disconnected. Really? You Suck Microsoft!

    Easiest Windows upgrade yet

I liked that most of the work was done automatically. Note to self, be sure to plug in a hardline to the internet as when the called for wifi driver isn’t found locally, things go much smoother. The upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10 needs room in the secure reserve partition (SRP). I did not have one so the installation put the old Win 7 in an “oldWindows…” directory and put Win 10 in the rest of the drive. Unhandy as it meant re-installing all programs/apps, printers. Still not a terrible hassle, much better than previous versions to be sure. The product i bought gives you an activation code, though it still required me to download from microsoft the Win 10 installation files, and activate it.

    difficult download and installation

I tried to download the software so I could make a DVD for use with a PC at my church. I had to get help from Microsoft to before I was able to get the download. Once I got and made the DVD, I found the installation difficult. The install process kept stopping. I had to turn off the computer and then power it on again many times to get the install to complete. (Years ago loading software was easy, now it is difficult.)

I was unable to download the Software

I was not able to download the “Amazon Game & Software Downloader” and without it you can not download the software. So I can not download the software to install. I wasted $200. I should have spent the extra $10 and purchased it from Microsoft. I will never by software from Amazon again. I am to the point where I might find other means to purchase items because the items that are being recommended by Amazon are not of good quality. I will spend the extra time and find items on other sites.

    Mature and Excellent OS Software

Some years ago, I wrote a pretty scathing review of a newly released Windows 10, but with time, many improvements, and product evolution, Windows 10 Pro is an outstanding platform. It is rock solid stable, and with capable hardware, capable of tremendous productivity. There was a time or two I purposely tried to crash it, (change video card brands) without changing drivers, or even motherboard changes, and Windows 10 took it all in, made the changes on the fly, and did not miss a beat. This would have wrecked Windows XP or even Windows 7. Very impressive Software. I will continue to use it happily.

    Legit Copy

I like the fact that it is a digital download but most of all that it was a legit copy of MS Windows Pro.I have read of some people that had purchased their copy and it turns out to be a fake or useless key code. What I did not like to much is the fact that you have to go to the MS website and create a bootable media for the installation you have to use a USB flash drive with at least 10 Gigs of space and make sure you keep track of your purchased key code. other then that it is quite simple.

    Very Easy Install

I installed Windows 10 Pro over an existing Windows 7 Pro system. The process went very incredibly well, and it was done in under 2 hours. All of my data, personal files, settings, Google account material, bookmarks, and apps transferred. The only problem I faced was with Windows Virtual PC (I had an XP system installed as part of WIndows 7 Pro.) While I knew that Virtual PC was no longer supported by Windows 10, the install still put links to the XP programs in the Start Menu. There is now no way to uninstall those programs, but the computer still shows they are available. I am not sure if uninstalling these programs in Virtual PC first would have fixed this issue, but if you have to do the same thing, it might be worth a try.

    no support-

you get the instructions, but no links to immediate help. for the money one would think it would worl and/or have support nearby. Nope, we MS. we don’t care, we don’t have to. Too big to burn to a DVD and the USB setup asks for the unattended key file that was not provided. download at own risk. $200 later, no running OS.

Used to hate the platform, many improvements have been made.

Very easy downloadable installation with registration key sent to the games section of your amazon, or your email, I would assume. Windows 10 has impressed me over all, quite intuitive for someone who isn’t a fan of apps and has already shown gaming performance benefits over 7. Only drawback is the “invasion of privacy” that comes with Corsana and various other software to monitor your surfing/gaming/buying habits, though many of these can be turned off at this point it’s still a point of contention.

Upgrade from Windows 7 on old PCs

I was dreading the forced upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10, but it went smoothly. I chose the option to keep my apps and files rather than a clean install, and everything works as before. Glad I finally took the plunge!UPDATE: I bought two downloads of this Windows 10 upgrade. I installed them on old HP desktops: one purchased in 2014 and the other in 2012. It’s been over a week now and both PCs have had no problems with performance or compatibility. Even old apps (originally purchased in the late 1990s) work flawlessly. Highly recommended!

really want to like Windows 10

Absolutely pitiful support and pitiful consistency. It’s such a pain, because I really, really want to like Windows 10. The UI is modern and sleek. The functionality out of the box is great. But I can NOT forgive Microsoft for their decision to force feed updates at the most in-opportune time. In the last 30 days, I’ve encountered DOZENS of times where my machine will NOT boot because it force updated either overnight, or shutdown improperly the last time because it was forced to update. My machine CONSTANTLY gets stuck on the blue windows loading icon for HOURS at a time, never fully booting itself. This is an extremely common problem according to a simple Google search, and yet no solution in sight. Horrible, horrible product for the force feeding of updates alone. Such a shame that there’s still no end in sight to my misery with Windows 10.

So bottom line is that the upgrade has been so far useless.

I purchased this product and every time that I attempt to install on my Windows10Home Dell laptop I get an error message that says “The product key you entered didn’t work. Check the product key and try again, or enter a different one. (0x800700c1)”. I searched on this error code and found a large number of suggested fixes but no guidance from Microsoft or any legitimate known source. So bottom line is that the upgrade has been so far useless.

So honestly the Pro version is probably totally unnecessary for me as an individual user but I had already installed a trial version of Pro before I bought this and realized through research that a Home version key wouldn’t work without a completely clean install of the OS, which I wasn’t going to waste time on.Not sure what to do with the extra features that are exclusive to the Pro version, but there they are!

    Supplier Good Microsoft Bad

I had a computer running fine with Windows 10 Home and then had hardware problems. I had to change the motherboard & processor. The computer wouldn’t boot with the same hard disk. At the computer store they only had Windows 10 Pro OEM and I had to buy a new hard disk in order to install OEM version. I had to also install Windows on another computer so I used up the one and only activation. I had the product # for Windows 10 home but it wouldn’t work for Pro. There was no way to downgrade from Pro to Home. I ended up having to buy another Pro in order to get the computer to activate. Microsoft forced me to waste $189. The original hard disk should have booted.

OK – if you need it for work or are a computer buff – but be ready in case you have a struggle, not saying you will but be ready

Just got this product a few days ago and just got done upgrading.1. Why? I have a Dell XPS 8700 running Windows 7 Pro – basically mirrored my office set up. At the office, we’ve gone to Windows 10 pro so I made the upgrade.2. How easy was it? Well…. here is what happened. I bought the item and it appeared in my digital orders folder. I follow the instructions.3. I had upgraded PC before so I had done all of the usual stuff: (1) made plenty of room for the new OS on the C drive (needs about 20 GB for the 64 bit version), (2) cleaned up the computer of temp files, junk and stuff, (3) made a backup and restore point, (4) located all of the old programs for a reinstall in case the upgrade didn’t work, so I thought I was ready.4. It takes a LONG time to down load the actual system, the download program that does the work is a quick file – so don’t be impatient – it is longer than some movies run and your time may depend on the speed of your connection, and time of day, etc.5. Next there are two options – do you want to upgrade the computer you just downloaded the download program to or do you want to create a USB drive and upgrade off of this? (this is the case you were downloading on computer and upgrading another one).6. Key point, the USB must be at least 8 GB and should be empty. It will have the iso file with the upgrade BUT you can’t just copy to it, you have to use the program because it makes it a bootable USB drive.7. THEN … you can finally start upgrading…normally it takes a few hours I’m told, but this process took almost 10 hours. To their credit the support people at Microsoft were helpful. The program hung up because it claimed the product key was invalid.8. After reaching the company and going over with them, they acknowledged the key was valid, and set to work – there is some glitch in the uploader program – we spent hours back and ultimately we got it to upgrade but then….9. The video drivers won’t load… because of a known problem with Nvidia and Windows 10, so back to stripping out all of the old stuff, literally seeking out individual files with names like nvdsp.inf, nv_lh, and nvoclock….and clean out all Nvidia Corporation folders and kill all processes using Task Manager…10. Finally then do another install but choose the custom setting and pick the ones you need …And it worked …and I’m writing this now.So, was it worth it? I’m honestly not sure, but the program seems pretty stable so far. Since Windows 7 things have been OK – It looks like they are trying to create one common system for tablets, laptops and PCs.Anyway – if you need for work – it is OK – but if you are not a real computer buff, and don’t need to upgrade, you might want to wait and see if they can sort out these upgrade issues.I went on line and it seems that there are some out there.

You bought it, you own it!

I tried an upgrade install from Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro. It went through the process and never completed. I was in telephone contact with MS support throughout this, but their only solution was to do a clean install, which would delete all of my programs, thus requiring re-installation of each program. I tried the upgrade install about 15 times with the same result. Now I have a piece of software I cannot use and I cannot return as “You bought it, you own it.” I don’t understand that policy as the product key has not been used and it was a download version.

    Its probably fine.

Actually, I accidentally bought this when looking for Microsoft Office 2010! Not sure where I might use it. No way to “return” software. Just dumb on my part. I moved to a new machine and discovered that Microsoft Office was node-locked! It didn’t like the hardware ID’s on my new machine. Critical problem for me. I rely heavily on the Outlook Calendar. I was semi-panicking that’s probably why I made the error. Finally found a site selling Microsoft Office keys. Risky… But the key I bought worked and the program “activated.” I am a software engineer with 55 years continuous experience writing scientific software. I guess I was tired from cloning disk then working through why it wouldn’t boot on the new machine. Researched for hours and finally figured out how to repair/rebuild the boot subsystems. Truly a pain. Used to be much easier in the 80’s. 🙂 (Used “System Commander” back then.) Also ran into problems getting Adobe Dreamweaver and Photoshop CS6 to run on the new machine. Adobe helped and I am back in business until I discover the next piece of node-locked software. 🙂

If you want to change your PC from Home to Pro, it’s very easy. Here’s how:1. Make sure you’re up to date on any Windows Updates.2. Navigate again to Start Menu > Settings > Updates and Security > Activation.3. Under Activation, select Change product key.4. Enter the 25-digit Windows Pro Product Key that Amazon sent you.5. Click on Next. When you do that the upgrade will start. It takes around 10 minutes. Then, if you like, you can continue and do a full install ofWindows 10 Pro and not just change the registration toWindows 10 Pro. Go to the “How to redeem this item”link that Amazon provided when they sent you the licensekey, and the full Windows 10 Pro will be installed. Windows 10

Bought it because the “Activate Windows” overlay was really annoying.I would recommend, setting a 2nd monitor as your default and ignoring the warning.I was forced to but 10 for a PC upgrade. Window 10 is trash. Hardware is plagued with latency issues because of Window’s aggressive driver sleep policy. Realtek audio driver are plagued with 100’s of ms to seconds of latency, as was my Creative sound card. Wireless networking is a constant hassle to manage- there’s a 100 ms latency penalty for using stock configuration. In it’s current state the Metro UI is just one more screen I have to click past to get to the actual settings dialogues. The sidebar and notifications center are so invasive when using full-screen applications the recommended fix is to kill explorer outright… I’m stuck with this pile of garbage because my preferred software was written for Microsoft platforms.

    Easy to install and use

I have read some of the reviews here and I will have to disagree with the characterization that this is not a good product. I performed the purchase, I received a download link in my email (which was not necessary because the download is in Amazon at your “My Account page” under the “Digital games and software” link that is in the “Digital content and devices” section if you scroll down a bit on the “My Account page” you should see it.So I used the code on my freshly installed Windows Home OEM copy and it upgraded to Windows Pro Retail. One note, you should have, or obtain a Microsoft account before this purchase so that your copy of Windows Pro Retail will have a digital home to link to and be signed on to that account on your computer when you do the upgrade. Then it’s just a matter of putting in the new product key provided. If you don’t have Windows Home OEM installed on the machine you should do that first. I believe a link is provided called “How to redeem this item” that provides details for download of windows 10.So this is super simple. Anyone that had a problem doing this that has written a review here probably either didn’t have a Microsoft account or had a really dirty copy of windows. I do recommend a fresh install, but the upgrade should work on your install provided you’re not having any issues with it before you begin. This upgrade won’t fix a corrupted install. My only complaint is the cost. I know Windows is a large compilation of software, but $100 would be a lot easier on the wallet. 😁Good luck..

    A Good Buy

About 2 minutes after I bought this product my version of Windows 10 Pro was activated. All I had to do was highlight the product key, copy and then paste in the Windows Activation box and press enter. The Heading “Microsoft 10 Pro | Download” is misleading. Amazon will only give you a product key and gives a hyperlink to a help page that tells you how to download the Windows 10 creation tool.It appears Amazon will keep a copy of the product key in your software and digital download section of your account. To keep up to date with the Products Title, they should have done a hyperlink leading to the MediaCreationTool1803.exe right under the product key to stop the misleading word Download.

Then:–cleaned up the mess from previous failed attempts to install (this may not be necessary) but better safe than sorry,–as always, made image copy of present system for backup (Acronis True Image)– boot from flash (you could also opt to create DVD). On DELL the F12 key allows you to select the flash drive–Use your $$$ KEY (ouch) when requested (this is one spot that gave me problems before)–Select the options to install clean (save nothing) but it did save all under “c:windows.old” like past windows upgrades,–Install takes over for just over an hour and no errorsYes, I know the upgrade is free –Let’s talk about that for a minute. I spent well over 30+ hours trying to install using the MediaCreationx64 tool. I combed through hundreds of posts relating to “Something Happened — Windows 10 failed to install” error I kept getting. Believe me, I did almost everything and no joy. Went to Microsoft support on-line and that was a futil experience. I just figured I spent enough time fooling around to install a free OS (after 30 hours it’s no longer free). To me, the money was well spent!I’ve upgraded the same DELL (2009 i7) hardware 3 times: Vista Pro, Windows 7 Pro and now Windows 10 Pro.

get it thru here. best way.

I like that they instantly give you a number. then you can go download the software. burn it onto a thumb drive usb 3.0 disk and it installs that quick. most painless process except for you have to use a special iso burner called rufus. it burns the iso a special way. or use the media burner on the web page itself where you get the win10 from. the code always stays with your content on amazon. so the licence is always easy to find. I have done this for two computers, fixing to do a third time when the parts come in. I am oldschool but this was easy. you will feel good about it.

Windows 10 Pro upgrade killed the computer

Tried, and failed, to get Windows 10 running on an HP EleteDesk Mini with 8GB of memory, lots of disk space and a Windows 7 Pro OEM installation that came with the unit when purchased. We uploaded all the bios and firmware updates recommended by HP, along with two specific Windows updates and new drivers for the graphics, audio and networking cards. Download and upgrade seemed to be doing fine (a three-hour download and installation) and the Windows 10 screen worked but not a single app would load. No start button function, no MS Edge, no search function, not even eh calculator. The already installed programs worked like a charm but not a single function that is supposed to be part of the Win 10 Pro package. Tried the recommended SRC, DMIS scans and reloads but nothing worked. Got two Windows Advocates who worked with us for more than 15 hours, including a reload of their latest 10 upgrades. Again, nothing worked. This was an upgrade for a client whose computer I have managed for more than 15 years, including multiple upgrades, mixing of Macs and PCs without a problem. The client now has asked for a “second opinion” and a local Windows guru is coming in on Monday. This upgrade comes at the end of more than 50 hours of work putting in changes and upgrading his network and device interaction, which worked like a charm until we introduced the Windows 10 nightmare. I took every upgrade precaution. Made sure all hardware met the compatibility lists, patched more than 30 software setups and ran the upgrade on a weekend when the office was closed. I’m not a kid but a 72-year-old man who started fusing with CP/M systems in the late 70s, then TRS-80s, Apples, the IBM PC and Macs. I consult on computers as a side business (my primary profession is photojournalism) but this is my first failure in nearly 50 years of working with these machines and software. After discussing the problems n various forums, I find I am not alone with such failures in the Windows 10 system. My wife has a working Windows Pro machine (which came with her desktop) but she has switched to Chromebooks. The gurus at MS and HP recommend a full backup of the data and writing the system clean for a boot install. That doesn’t work for a client whose system has many programs that are either downloads or that have original installation discs that are out of date. I’ve recommended letting me put in a clean Windows 10 machine and then using Laplink to try and transfer the programs to a clean installation of Windows 10 Pro. I’m waiting to see if the “second opinion”: guy agrees. if he doesn’t, I’ve probably lost a longtime client and will probably never touch another Windows 10 job again.

Microsoft forces you to upgrade to more bug filled junk software.

More garbage from Microsoft. I had a earlier version of Windows 10 that was at the end of its support period for Microsoft and suddenly became unstable overnight as soon as I read the email from Microsoft letting me know I need to upgrade to the latest version 1909 ( from 1903 I believe ).Well, it conflicts with my favorite firewall/anti virus Comodo. So I had to do a clean install. Then I noticed sluggish performance and noticed my folders wouldn’t refresh. So I scoured the internet looking for solutions and tried as many as I could find. With no solution in sight and tired of having to hit refresh each time I move, rename, delete, or edit a folder or file I decided to do another clean install. Well, right out of the gate and minty fresh with nothing but the latest Microsoft updates done…the problem persists. Total junk.

Was very concerned being “forced” to upgrade from Win 7 Pro, running a few highly proprietary apps, but all ran flawlessly. Made sure cloud backup was current, created media on USB drive and followed the steps. You’re prompted at a couple of points to do a clean install or preserve programs and data. Everything was preserved, including internet settings, printers, etc. It’ll take time to get used to 10 coming from 7, but I was shocked at how easy the upgrade went.

    FINALLY Microsoft gets it right…

Yes, this OS is brand new and I only installed it today… but so far I have a great first impression. It installed quickly, and it runs faster than Windows 7 did. A pretty good feat considering that Windows 7 is six years old now. Also it boots quickly, and does not have that bloated feel that older versions of Windows did.The interface is very clean and intuitive, but they also do not hide the power features too far away. Against all odds, they have actually made the app store useful. With this download product, all I had to do was download the ISO and burn it to a DVD. Then I copied in the serial number once during installation, and everything went smoothly. I expected problems but did not have any.Microsoft wants to collect some usage statistics from Windows 10. I was concerned that this would be hidden somehow, but actually during installation they came right out and said it (watch for the “Express Options” button, don’t click that, and instead just click customize and all the options are there). I was easily able to turn that feature off.Really a very fine OS so far. Hopefully it will hold up…

Windows 10 reported I didn’t have a valid copy of Windows. So, I bought this. I couldn’t update my PC from this because the version on my PC was more recent. So, I installed this, wiping out all of my files and settings. I restored my old version from a two-week old image backup and it found itself valid. Because this purchase is non-refundable, I’m out 12 hours of my time and over $200 (after taxes).

So far, so good. I’m impressed!

I’m a Mac guy, I’ll say that right up front. I work on Windows all day long (I am an I.T. consultant for over a dozen small-med size businesses), so I’ve always used Mac at home because I don’t want to deal with the crap in my house that I deal with all day long with customers. But customers have been asking me for input on Windows 10 for their businesses, so I purchased a copy and loaded it unto my Bootcamp drive on my (2014) MacBook Pro.I have to say, I’m impressed. They have a few bugs to work out, and I’ve noticed that some websites really fail pretty hard in the new Edge browser, but 95% of my experience thus far has been positive. It looks and feels great. It’s easy to use and understand. It makes sense. I’m really pretty impressed with MS on this version of Windows. Looking forward to some updates to fix the bugs, but other than that…I’m pretty excited about it.

I have to say that the process of upgrading my Win 7 Ultimate to Windows 10 Pro went easier than I thought it would. The process took a couple of hours but all went well. I used Bitlocker on Win 7 Ultimate and while upgrading to Win 10 Pro, it suspended Bitlocker during the installation then unsuspended it automatically when done.

Fixes for known bugs often worse than the bugs

Updates may disable your startup. Fixes for known bugs often worse than the bugs. The current creators update package created so many errors i had to reinstall completely. I will post back with an update to tell you all if reinstalling fixed my problem “BAD SYSTEM CONFIG INFO” upon startup after the update mentioned before.Had enough, if this install is not flawless, i will convert to linux for good and run windows vms from my college days if i need microsoft again. I will take steps to avoid their buggy, expensive, monopolization of my time and money if i run into ONE MORE FAILED BOOT ON MY BUSINESS COMPUTER….UPDATE: The issue was with a part of the ‘Creators Update’ having to do with some SSD (Solid State Drive) software or configuration. I spent 16 hours searching for a solution, only to spend another 16 reinstalling my software, only to have Microsoft Update install the buggy update AGAIN and hose my installation… ….you guessed it, AGAIN.What’s interesting is that while Microsoft posted a release saying they were working on a fix for SOME brands, mine (M.2 NVMe Samsung EVO 250gb) was not listed among them, but suffered the same fate. I have done computer IT support and troubleshooting for fifteen years and I can tell you, Microsoft’s drivers and hardware support software misses the mark time and again. If you cannot get a proper driver from your manufacturer’s website, your PC will get it from Microsoft’s Russian roulette. As I promised, I will be switching all my software to Linux from here on out.

If you need your computer for business or for gaming, then this is the operating system to get. It is very sad though, that they load it with so much telemetry and naggingly try to keep you on Microsoft products instead of allowing you to easily switch to alternatives. They also annoy the unholy hell out of you by forcing windows updates on you, and throwing up restart popups while you’re in the middle of gaming, or even just straight up unexpectedly restarting your computer with no warning.

Hello Apple, Wait, I Mean Windows 10

Reviewing Windows 10 and not the download. On the surface it looks great. Very polished, and customizable, until you try to do anythin,g and then it’s lock down city. I bought this on 1/18/18 for a new box because mine had crashed. I have litterally spent the last month plus trying to configure it for my work and life. Wow. What a hassle. Everything is blocked and you have to dig deep, WAY DEEP, and spend hours on the net to find ways to force win10 to let you configure it your way. I’ve been working on pcs, inside and out, including software for more than thirty years and I’ve never had setup issues like with this version of windows. Four restores in one month to fix what updates broke is ridiculous. Seriously, Windows, stop trying to be Apple. If I wanted what they offer I would have been with them all along.Watch out for app/program compatibility too. Took me a month to finally get the accounting software I use for my business to work properly. It was chocking due to win10 deep configuration. After digging way down in the admin tools I was able to turn off windows and get a good install. Took a month. That’s ridiculous. If I had it to do over I would load any version but this one. If it crashes again I’m going back to 7 Pro. Win 8 was awful, so now we have two bad iterations again. How is it that Windows can’t consitently deliver good versions. Remember WinMe. That was just like Win8 and now Win 10 is just like Win XP. Win 7 was the best and most stable so I guess we’re waiting for the next iteration for stability because win 10 breaks itself or something else with each update. Nightmare on wheels!

Relatively easy update and how I prepared my laptop for update.

So from updating my machine from Windows7 Pro and helping several co-workers I will go over how I prepared my machine and issues some people had.First I did a full virus scan, then a full backup, backup of just Library/Quick Access files, removed all programs except for Norton, unplugged all accessories, and finished by restarting my computer. I searched MS website for errors installing and printed out a page with the most common errors and wrote down the MS help line, can’t leave a link apparently :(I started my download at 9pm EST on a Sunday and I figured that would be best time to do it. At about 11pm the download was only at 15% so I set my alarm for 3am to check on the download and go back to sleep. When I got up at 3am Windows 10 Pro was up and running, so apparently the download really sped up somewhere in the wee hours of the morning. The only issues I had was that Microsoft had reinstalled some of my older programs, such as Office 2007 for some odd reason. This program was not even listed in the programs I could uninstall in Windows 7 Pro or Windows 10 Pro. I had to do a full manual removal of Office 2007. Strange. Then I ran the Windows Update and unsurprisingly several drivers were updated.Issues: Some of my co-workers had quite a few problems. One was caused by her having malware on her computer, so do a full virus/malware scan of your computer. Another individual had an issue but as soon as we unplugged his phone from the computer, the update went through with no issues.Potential issues: I noticed that at the MS download page all versions are available, from Windows 10 Home all the way up to the Enterprise edition. Microsoft guesses which version you want and in spite of all the b.s. from Silicon Valley, we are in absolute no danger of AI ever taking over. There is a way to change the version but it is this tiny link that is very easy to miss and I think this is why some individuals are ending up with the wrong version installed.Overall the install worked better than some previous versions and I had planned on disabling my anti virus program but this step apparently wasn’t necessary.Hope this helps and now I will go back to removing all the bloatware and preventing MS from tracking my every move in this program but that is a different discussion.

WIth Time This Will Be Great.

WIndows 10 is a good step in the right direction. Interface is smooth, new icon theme is good. I don’t like how the default theme has bland gray windows, but thats an easy tweak. Package Manager in powershell works great, and I like the new settings app that should replace the control panel. Had no problems with compatibility with programs so far. New start menu is great, I feel like if this had been 8’s start menu from the get go it would have received massive praise. Now, for the not so good. There has been a huge hub bub about the data tracking in 10. In my opinion, at least Microsoft is transparent about what they are doing, and its not hard to turn it off. Couple settings unchecked and two commands in CMD later its off. Literally 5 minutes with some googling will take care of it. As of right now graphics drivers for 10 are not particularly great, AMD’s latest beta fixed most of my issues but my friends Nvidia drivers are giving him huge fits. From what I understand a newer driver model was implemented by Microsoft that should function better, giving lower level access to hardware. Its just going to take some time for vendors to catch up. Just be aware that this might be an issue before going in. Speaking of drivers, the auto driver update is a good and a bad thing because we know how people are generally with updates. However, many people are reverting back to old drivers for stability reasons and Windows will install the newer driver over it. You can turn this off in Pro, not as easily in Home. Google will be your friend if you need to turn this off for stability issues. I’m sure an update will make turning this off easier down the road due to public demand, and Microsoft seems to be more willing to listen to its customers recently.Overall, I believe this is going to be the next Windows 7. Like all Windows launches, there is just some kinks that needs to be worked out.

Total junk.

I purchased this thinking I would be getting Windows 10 Pro. When the download started, it said Windows 10. I figured that may just be what both versions say. Once it was downloaded I found that it was not Windows 10 Pro. This was Windows 10 Home edition.

Downloaded and upgraded Windows7, so I could keep installing new soflware. I still think windows 10 is inferior to 7. Its more cumbersome. office works better in 7. Onenote is MUCH better with 7; it suchs with Win 10, as any search on the web will testify. It is a real shame that Microsoft feels justified in doing something like this, but I know from experience dating all the way back to DOS 4.0 that they really don’t care!! It shut down almost every computer in the world! I had an image created on my system with 3.11 and was able to wipe drive clean and re-start in about 1 hour and never listened to them again.

    Not a fan

Product works through Amazon digital key and download. Everything is fine. I just don’t like Windows 10 after trying to avoid it for so many years while using 7.Only decided to upgrade since 7 was losing its support and everything is going to be transitioned to 10. So like XP, I say farewell to my companion as I begrudgingly upgrade.I really hate setting up 10 so it doesn’t waste power on useless apps and features I never asked for. I also have to turn off so many things that basically mine your data/usage/privacy. They mostly are always on by default so you have to go through so many settings and tabs to turn it off.10 also managed to lose a folder of pictures that I transferred from my phone which I couldn’t recover. Super upset at that and I heard it is a known issue with 10. But I’ll pin the blame on me for not double checking before deleting my phone’s file.Anyways, the product works and unless you use some form of Linux or Mac or something, this is basically what you have to choose from. Might as well get the Pro.It works pretty efficiently and aside from the above and just getting used to the new interface and how to navigate through things, it works well.I just hate all the above mentioned gripes and am salty. I wish they kept 7 and just made it more efficient and current. I hate cortana and the app features and all the useless garbage I don’t use that active in the background and which I can’t (unless with some effort) delete or have to deactivate, along with having to create an account and whatnot.

I went from Windows 7 Pro to 10 Pro putting the installer on a thumb drive then upgrading. It took about 30 minutes. All data, every application, email and network setting transferred flawlessly and work. I have never experienced this on any prior upgrades of Windows operating systems. I used Classic Shell to bring up a menu and UI that feels more familiar. Too bad Classic Shell will no longer be updated after Dec 2017. I’ll see how long it survives future Win10 patches/updates.Fabulous experience overall.

00 for this at best shopping around AND trying to get a legal copy …

I am a 30+ year *nix user, I use MicroSlug because my business requires it, so I carry a local copy. I reloaded my desktop at home with *nix wanted to buy a legal copy of of Windows 10 Pro. paid 184.00 for this at best shopping around AND trying to get a legal copy I could reload if necessary (bear in mind the are a lot of disreputable sellers), I found this (yep there were ‘cheaper’ probably misrepresented MicroSlug products), I want ed to buy a genuine. Thought as big as Amazon was and supposedly MicroSlug is, couldn’t go wrong, Windows 10 Pro, wanted a genuine load. So I load it on virtualbox, seems it is good, got to acting flakely so I said it is genuine, I can reload…Come to find out this product key is a rip off both from Amazon and MicroSoft. I cannot reload it, even though I only have one computer and one copy which I only want/need to use out of necessity, not choice. I was ripped off. This a reflection on both Amazon and MicroSoft… do it – to the best of your ability to do it right and be within the law and reasonable use and get burned. I don’t know yet haven’t made up my mind, I may just smoke my Amazon account over this, 184.00 to do the right thing, and get burned… here let me help Microsoft and Amazon building a reputiontation togetgether, your are BOTH complicit and dishonest

Virtualbox client upgrade from Win7 Pro

I’m writing this for those few folks out there running virtual machines under a VirtualBox host. I waited until the last dying moment to upgrade simply because my universe is on a Win7Pro instance and truthfully, I didn’t trust Microsoft. I’ll provide the few steps I did here to maybe help.1) You need to google and see if there are any conditions your machine doesn’t qualify for. You need sufficient CPUs, ram and available disk space. I had plenty, 4 cpus, 6G, and about 3TB of disk with a lot of it empty.2) make a FULL backup of your old system, not just a snapshot. Google it if you’re not familiar.3) download the executable from Microsoft (you won’t have a choice).4) shut down your instance, go into settings and change the VERSION to Win10 and start it back up.5) If you have Avira or some other antivirus running, turn off the realtime protection.6) launch the executable you downloaded from Microsoft. There was a dialog or two in the beginning but once those are done, you’re in for a wait. Go watch TV or something and check back every hour or so. Mine took 4 hours to finish. All my software and apps seem to work fine. I opened my MS Office and got a nag about licensing. Just click the activate over the Internet and that should be resolved (verified assuming legal copy) almost instantly. You may have issues with the virtual graphics card. if you see the warning, just chose continue. Once the installation completes, you will need to mount or go to your Guest Additions image and run the VBoxWindowsAdditions-[your cpu] in order to get more choices on screen size. Assuming you want Full Screen on your Instance, select from the VBox Guest Menu, View/AutoResize Guest Display. Alternatively, you can select a fixed size by right clicking the desktop and going into the Display settings and choosing from the available options. VirtualBox can control your display size or Windows can, your choice. I’m a full screen person so I used VBox’s AutoResize capability.Anyway, it was uneventful. The look and feel is a bit different than Win7 but I got it close to my comfort zone so I’m happy; no Cortana, cleaned up the Task bar to MY LIKING. Hopefully you will be happy as well, other than being forced into this update. Hope this helps.

    Flawless Upgrade From 7 Pro

Was very concerned being “forced” to upgrade from Win 7 Pro, running a few highly proprietary apps, but all ran flawlessly. Made sure cloud backup was current, created media on USB drive and followed the steps. You’re prompted at a couple of points to do a clean install or preserve programs and data. Downloading is the way to go

I like getting to buy the OS and download it. Much faster and more convenient than waiting for it in the mail or even driving to a local shop. But I have a Mac. I didn’t see that Amazon only supports downloading from a Windows machine. So let’s review. If you have Windows, why are you buying a full version of Windows? If you’re on something else like a Mac or Linux, Amazon would let you download.Had to find a download link from Microsoft manually myself. Luckily the online purchase gave me a valid license number, but overall far too many hoops. If I weren’t as technically savvy as I am, it would have been a truly frustrating experience that would have outweighed any advantages over the online purchase.

Windows 10 Pro works great on my 8 year old Dell XPS 8500.

I downloaded the software and set it up to run on a thumb drive. I had issues getting it to execute from the thumb drive. It was taking a long time. After almost an hour of waiting, I decided to create an ISO to burn to a dual layer DVD. I had Windows 10 Pro installed on a brand new Samsung 860 Evo in a matter of minutes. Windows 10 is working fine on my old PC. It with the new SSD and 24 Gigs of memory make the old machine boot up faster than my 1 year old laptop with an Intel 10th gen processor. Choose your updates.

The number 1 reason to get Pro over Home is that you can choose when to perform your updates. No more surprises. I also use the more advanced features since I work in IT, but those debating home vs pro will probably find this the most useful and short review.Windows 10 is the best that Microsoft has released. The MS download service is confusing. I have a download but not sure if it will give me the Windows 10 Pro that I paid for. Download service only provided a down load for “Windows 10”. I hope this download provides all versions and the Windows 10 Pro Key will activate the Pro version? A choice for 32bit, 64bit or both is provided. I have not installed yet but hope the install give me the pro version or it will be a large was of time.

1 Computer Use Caution Attempts to use this with an additional PC can be Fatal.

I have 2 computers. in the past you could enter a product key on multiple computers and when a product key reach it’s limit it states unusable. this version only can be use with 1 computer.here is the sneaky s*** part, when i enter the product key on my 2nd computer (i was updating my free 10 home edition to this pro edition) it accepts it not only that it upgrades to windows 10 pro BUT you can’t activate it. i tried reinstalling windows 10 home edition and using the home edition original product key that i had and it no longer works.my options were to restore to factory default (windows 8) which means transferring important files and redownloading software and registration codes etc which took me days to complete last time that computer crashed or buy a new code.Microsoft wanted me to give my card information over the phone to get a new product key for $99.to be honest i didn’t trust them enough to go through with that process so i bought it from amazon rather have to go through the hell have reinstalling and downloading software because of this mess.

    Better than Windows 8…..

MS actually did a decent job with this release of the operating system. They brought back a lot of the things that they removed from 8 that made it almost unusable especially in a business environment. I’ve had few if any software compatibility or driver installation issues across dozens of Win 10 installations. One thing to note is that if you buy it through MS online you will not be furnished a product code, and if you have any issues with your installation be prepared to spend literally hours fighting their customer service to get the problem resolved. Because of this I’ve taken to buying the boxed product at local retailers or through Amazon’s digital services so I’ll get a product key.Yes you will be given a product key along with instructions to download after you complete the purchase – at least we have been. We weren’t sure before purchasing and almost decided against it.

    Not worth It.

I would have rated this a zero if there was a zero rating. This download first installs Windows 8.1 as an upgrade over Windows 7, then Windows 10 is installed as an upgrade. In effect, you cannot use this download to install a 64-bit Windows 10. If you have a 32-bitOS, you will be stuck with a 32-bit Windows 10. Do not buy! Ensure you are getting a Windows 10 64-bit download first. program

A Great Replacement for Windows 7

A long time user of Windows from the days of Windows 2 and DOS. A very long time user of Windows 7 but knew the life of that OS was coming to an end. I opted to buy this software rather than wait on the free upgrade to get my self familiar with the new OS as I am the resident “Geek Squad” guy for the family. I like it! It takes a little to get use to as I put this on a PC rather than a tablet but with a little work and some patience, I was able to make it do what I want. I now have the wife and daughter on Windows 10 systems and they had the initial “this is hard” comments, after a little time, they are now able to do everything they did on Windows 7. To also show how good this system is, I just upgraded my parents system to Windows 10 and he is 91 and she is 87 and they like using it.

Not the refined workhorse that Windows 7 was, and expensive

Built a new computer system from scratch and needed an OS. I loved everything about Windows 7, but given the ever-reducing amount of driver support, it was time to move on to Windows 10. Decided on the Pro version since I wanted a little bit more control, such as access to group policies and Bit Locker. Amazon delivered the license key electronicly almost instantly, and the basic installation went smoothly. However, as mentioned by others, I’ve found that Windows 10 is the most owner-restrictive OS so far from Microsoft. That is, one no longer has as much control over how to configure various aspects of the OS, that I guess I took for granted in Windows 7 and before. I get that this is all in the name of security, but it caused problems when trying to install older programs and drivers. I spent much more time than anticipated to get the system up and running once I started installing apps, and some apps just did not run correctly as they did under Windows 7 64-bit. These wrinkles in using programs I already own, plus the pretty stiff price of nearly $200, inclines me to only give it 3 stars.

New Windows 10 Fixes everything that was broken!

This purchase was probably one of the best time savers I’ve made in a while. Everything that was broken in Windows is now fixed! Now that I know how to use the new Desktop User Interface I can deal with the whole “UI Change” thing. Anyway, I’m glad I purchased this software. Hopefully Microsoft continues to fix things and make things better, faster, stronger, etc. etc.

I had to download it 5 times before it would completely download. Once downloaded it was even harder to install. I was upgrading form Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 Professional. The install code kept setting up Windows 10 and I paid for Windows 10 Pro. I finally had to format my hard drive and install from a command prompt. There were still bugs in the install because i could not connect to a Domain and that is the reason I use Pro. I paid a computer technician for 4.5 hours of labor at $95 an hour to tweak it to connect to my domain.

    MS Windows 10 Download version

There is not much to be said about Windows 10, it’s been out long enough that virtually everyone knows it’s the best OS Microsoft has ever made. What made this a 5 star purchase for me was two things, the fact that I got it cheaper here then anywhere else (granted not much cheaper but every penny counts). The other thing that made this purchase experience so good for me is that I was able to get it right away. I had the free upgrade version from back when I bought Win 7 Pro a few years ago but that had a time limit and there is no reinstall option any more. So when my C: drive crashed on me in the middle of the night, the only way to fix it quickly and move on was to buy and download a new separate more up to date version. Because I could do that things were back to normal more or less by the next morning. So if you need it right away without being charged more then necessary this is the option for you.

Ever wish you could run a phone OS on your desktop?

Got this for a home file server. Bugs out of the box, bugs after you update, if the update doesn’t brick your installation (happened on one of my PCs updating from RTM to the first SP, or whatever they are calling them now). No (legal) choice since MS won’t sell you old Windows versions. On 2 out of my 4 machines, metro completely stopped working, which means the start menu wouldn’t appear until I installed a start-menu replacer, not to mention all the sucky metro apps that I set up replacements for anyways (even the metro calculator doesn’t work right). Start menu search stopped working on the other two machines, meaning all of the options MS hid away after Win7 with no direct way of accessing except type-the-name-of the-setting-you-want-to-change were unchangeable without searching the internet for the control name and entering it on the run prompt (or by using even more esoteric methods). Can’t access shares by name from within explorer or any of its interfaces used in common dialogs–have to type IPs or set up network drives. Printing stopped working on one of the PCs, even XPS and PDF printing. Not relevant to this product exactly, but two out of three of my Windows 7 to 10 upgrades got stuck half-way and I had to install fresh. The last one managed to boot into 10, but after a few days that one developed severe issues and required a fresh installation too.MS has continued to obfuscate settings and remove/break features that used to work in previous versions. On the other hand, all of my programs still seem to work–better than MS’s built in stuff.None of the supposed fixes for any of the bugs work. Windows image restore didn’t fix anything, so I guess the bugs are baked into the image.I could go on and on…but it’s all been said. In a nutshell, my experience with 10 has been a nightmare. I rather run XP on my server if only it supported network junctions.

A dream come true in terms of installing device drivers: The OS appears to have a very broad support base. With an update, it will install even the most obscure drivers. This used to be a nightmare on older Windows versions.”A bag of poorly debugged device drivers” is how Marc Andreessen of Netscape once described Windows. It has come a long way.

Buying Win10 was more a requirement than a want

Windows 10 isn’t terrible and when your building a gaming PC you kinda need it but I hate having to pay so much for it, especially when there’s rumors of it becoming subscription based in the future.

Make Sure You Have an 8GB USB Flash Drive or Dual Layer DVD to Load the OS

Looks like there is no choice but to use Windows 10 now. All the new software and vendors are pushing it Funny thing is that people are being encouraged to use it due to privacy concerns yet this OS invades a user privacy unless you get to the privacy settings and turn those options off. You need either a 8GB USB flash drive or dual layer DVD to load the software from. Some older PCs with a standard DVD Rom drive may not be able to read a dual layer DVD — that happened to me. Luckily I was able to grab an external DVD drive that had that capability.

    Poor customer experience and service

Downloaded and installed Windows 10. Windows update does not work. Opened a case with Microsoft, all they try to do is reinstall the OS over and over again. 3 different techs doing the same thing with no success.

Perfect? No. But great, and worth the upgrade from version 7.

I skipped Windows 8 and went directly from Windows 7 to 10, and am happy that I did. I do still experience some issues that could be hardware related, but I also experience issues that should not be the fault of my hardware, and for that I docked 1 star.

Windows is finally rated a “10”.

Microsoft finally has earned 5 stars from me. I have been installing Windows since 1991. Actually, my Commodore 64 had Bill’s Microsoft Disk Operating System way back in 1985. 10 is finally fully mature. It refreshes itself just like phone operating systems by leaving all your “stuff” untouched while it updates or fully re-installs itself. Windows 10 has had issues in the past, no doubt, but this iteration seems to have gotten it right.
